No racing in Germany, but with finale in Australia: WRX presents 2024 rallycross race calendar

The World Rallycross Championship has unveiled its race calendar for the 2024 season, which was officially approved at a meeting of the World Motorsport Council on Wednesday. It includes new locations such as Australia and Hungary, but also long-standing favourites like Montalegre and Höljes. A race in Germany, as was last held in Buxtehude, is not planned this year.

In 2024, everything in the WRX will revolve around the battle between electric and combustion engines, which are once again permitted by the regulations after a two-year break. Major changes on the technical side of the World Rallycross Championship go hand in hand with a more international focus of the calendar. Almost half of the tracks are new. A total of five race weekends with two rounds each are currently planned.

As usual, the season starts in Scandinavia - this time in Höljes (Sweden). The season opener is scheduled for 6 and 7 July. Three weeks later, the off-road series travels to Nyirads in Hungary, where EuroRX races have been held over the past two seasons. The World Championship will now also be held there.

Two familiar tracks, Mettet (Belgium) and Montalegre (Portugal), will follow in August and September, before the season finale in Australia on 30 November, for which no specific race track has yet been determined. It will be the first ever WRX race in Australia.

Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa & Norway out

In addition, discussions are currently underway as to whether another race can be held in Asia before the season finale - in October or November. No location has yet been found for this either. This is because the new circuit in Hong Kong, which was only introduced last season, has been dropped from the calendar - as have South Africa and Norway.

The German race, which was last held at the Nürburgring or in Buxtehude, is also not planned for next season. German fans would therefore have to travel to Belgium, for example, to watch the World Rallycross Championship live at the track.

The WRX's electric support series - the RX2e - will contest all races with the exception of the season finale in Australia. However, as in every season, it will be part of the aforementioned European Championship and will therefore start the season on 8 and 9 June in Essay (France).
