Al-'Ula is an oasis city in the Saudi Arabian desert. It is located on the Incense Road in the northwest of the country about 150 kilometers southwest of Tayma and about 400 kilometers northwest of Medina. Al-'Ula was once the capital of the Lihyan Empire and emerged between the sixth and fourth centuries B.C. Because of its importance in the frankincense trade, the oasis was under the rule of the southern Arabian kingdom of Ma'in for about 100 years beginning in the second century B.C.
Al'Ula hosted the first race in Extreme E history on April 3 and 4, 2021. The so-called Desert X Prix will be held at the gates of the city.
