Neom is a planned city in the northwest of the country announced by the government of Saudi Arabia in 2017. The first construction phase of the megacity is scheduled for completion in 2025. The project is part of the "Vision 2030" economic transformation project and aims to make Saudi Arabia independent of oil in the future. Neom is to meet its energy needs exclusively with wind and solar power.
