The Extreme E will organise one last Desert X Prix under the banner "The Final Lap" and then stage the launch of the new Extreme H. On 4 and 5 October 2025, the racing series will race in Saudi Arabia (we reported) and will then switch from the electric Odysee 21 cars to the new, hydrogen-powered Pioneer 25. We will update this news ticker regularly.

>>> Tambay & Schönborn reserve drivers

[10/03 | 2:00 pm] Extreme E has announced the two reserve drivers for the Desert X Prix: Adrien Tambay will step in if one of the male drivers is unable to compete, while Claire Schönborn will fill in if one of the female drivers has to withdraw. Frenchman Tambay, who became FIA ETCR champion with Cupra in 2022, already drove for the ABT Cupra team in Extreme E at the 2023 Copper X Prix. Schönborn, who comes from Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, is otherwise active in rallying and is competing in Extreme E for the first time. She is competing in the Junior WRC this season as well as individual races in the WRC3 championship.

>>> New race format for FIA Extreme H World Cup

[09/26 | 6:00 pm] Extreme H has announced details of the race format for the first event, which will take place from 9 to 11 October in Qiddiya (Saudi Arabia). As previously in Extreme E, the equal treatment of both genders is once again an important point: drivers and riders will receive exactly the same amount of track time.

On the first day, there will be a two-part time trial in which the male and female driver of a team will complete a fast lap one after the other. The combined times will determine the ranking. The second time trial will then take place, with the order determined by the results of the first run. Two World Cup pool points will be awarded to the team that achieves the fastest time in the super sector on this day.

There will be head-to-head duels on the second day: The drivers will start the short races side by side. In 16 heats, the field will be reduced to four drivers, who will move on to the semi-finals and finally the final. As the course on this day is different to the other days, the team with the fastest combined times of male and female riders will receive two World Cup pool points.

On the third day, each team will compete in two races with four cars each and fight for further World Cup pool points. The final World Cup pool points table will then determine the starting grid for the final, in which all eight vehicles will start together. The winner of the race will receive the title of FIA Extreme H World Cup Champion.

>>> O'Donovan & Sorensen drive for STARD

[09/26 | 2:00 pm] Familiar drivers, but new team: Austrian team STARD will be competing in Extreme E and Extreme H for the first time in October. Patrick O'Donovan and Amanda Sorensen, on the other hand, have already gained experience in the racing series: O'Donovan was initially Championship Driver of the racing series and drove the last X Prix in 2024 for Legacy Motor Club, Sorensen drove for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023 and for JBXE in 2024.

>>> FIA & Extreme H sign multi-year agreement

[09/16 | 2:30 pm] Extreme H has signed a multi-year agreement with the FIA to organise the first hydrogen-powered motorsport World Cup. The new format is due to start in Saudi Arabia in 2025 and will utilise fuel cell technology to test the use of hydrogen as an energy source in motorsport. The aim is to demonstrate the technical feasibility in racing and provide impetus for a broader application in the automotive and energy sectors.</p

The predecessor series Extreme E already used self-produced hydrogen for parts of its infrastructure. In future, all areas - from the vehicles to the energy supply for the entire event - will run on it. As in Extreme E, each team has a male and female driver, with the series continuing to pursue its aim of promoting equality in motorsport.
