Extreme E: Veloce Racing also wins Sunday's race at the Hydro X Prix 2024 in Scotland

After their victory on Saturday, Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen also won the Hydro X Prix of Extreme E on Sunday. With two wins and podium finishes in the other two races of the season, they extended their lead over Acciona Sainz in the championship. Rosberg X Racing experienced a very bitter stay in Scotland.

Veloce dominates, drama surrounding JBXE

Penalty after penalty was handed out in both qualifying sessions of the second Hydro X Prix. Hardly anyone was able to avoid the track limit flags. It was particularly dramatic for JBXE. After their heat win in the first qualifying session, Amanda Sorensen suffered a violent rollover in the second qualifying heat. Instead of an almost certain place in the final, it was only enough to take part in the Redemption Race.

Winners of the first qualifying heats were JBXE and Rosberg X Racing. The second heats were won by Acciona Sainz and Legacy Motor Club. Despite the victory of Leadbetter and O'Donovan, it was not enough for the final, just like JBXE.

As on the previous day, Veloce Racing won the final. Acciona Sainz finished immediately behind, followed by Andretti and Rosberg. However, the team of Laia Sanz and Fraser McConnell still managed to win the Traction Challenge and secure the two points for the championship.

Rosberg X Racing made a particularly aggressive start to the final. After turn 1, Ahlin-Kottulinsky collided with both Andretti and Acciona Sainz. Together with Andretti, the German team fell five seconds behind the competition. Up to the driver switch, Veloce's counter-strategy seemed to work: Hansen was the only man to start the race as the lead driver.

Puncture for Rosberg

Just before the driver switch, disaster struck for Rosberg in the second round. A puncture and the subsequent tyre change took them out of contention for victory. While third and fourth place already seemed to have been decided, McConnell chased after the now only woman in the second half of the final. The Jamaican was literally right on Molly Taylor's tail for the final lap, but there was no way past Taylor. She won by six tenths of a second.

The Redemption Race went to Neom McLaren. The start phase up to the driver changeover could hardly have been closer. Two thrilling duels unfolded between JBXE and Legacy Motor Club on the one side and McLaren and SUN Minimeal on the other side. However, everything went wrong for JBXE at the switch. The car, which was barely rebuilt in time for the Redemption Race, lost valuable time and finished 13 seconds behind the field.

McLaren's Mattias Ekström was able to overtake Leadbetter just a short time after the driver change and ultimately win the Redemption Race for McLaren. Legacy Motor Club came second, followed by SUN Minimeal and JBXE. It was a difficult day for Timo Scheider and Klara Andersson with technical problems in the second qualifying session and another 10-second penalty for hitting a way point flag in the race.
