Timo Scheider competed in the DTM from 2000 to 2016, winning the championship title there in 2008 and 2009. In October 2008, the Lahnstein native was voted "ADAC Motorsport Driver of the Year. After his DTM career, Scheider competed in rallycross. He is also the initiator of the charity, sports and family event series "Race4Kids," which aims to support disadvantaged children and families in Germany and Austria.

In March 2021, Scheider was introduced as the male "Championship Driver" for the first season of the electric off-road series Extreme E. He was on site for all races and served as a universal backup driver for all teams, in addition to advising the series - including on track design. He got his first assignment at the 2022 Island X Prix in Italy for Xite Energy Racing. In 2023, Carl Cox Racing signed him as a regular driver.
