Carlos Sainz sr. is "El Matador" of rallying. Between 1987 and 2004, he competed in the World Rally Championship, winning the overall classification in 1990 and 1992, and making it to the podium a total of 97 times. He also won the Dakar Rally in 2010, 2018 and 2020. He is the father of Formula One racing driver Carlos Sainz Jr.
In the first two seasons of Extreme E, he drove for the Acciona Sainz team, for which he was jointly responsible. Since 2023, he has been assisting the racing team primarily as an advisor, but could also be used as a replacement driver if the worst comes to the worst.
