Taylor's father owns a rally school where Sydney-born Molly learned to drive. Between 2009 and 2015, she lived in the UK and competed in various rallies in Europe, including a number of special stages in the ERC and WRC Academy. She then returned to Australia, where she won the national rally championship in 2016 - the youngest person to do so at the time and also the first woman to do so.

In May 2020, she was introduced as a driver for Team Rosberg X Racing in Extreme E. Together with Johan Kristoffersson, they became the series' first champions in 2021. In 2022, Taylor moved to JBXE and then to Veloce, where she initially took only a reserve driver role. She has been a regular driver at Veloce since 2023.
