Under the name Renault e.dams, the team celebrated winning the team championship in each of the first three years of Formula E with Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost. In the summer of 2016, the French squad also took the drivers' title thanks to Buemi. While Jean-Paul Driot headed the team in the first few years, Formula 1 legend Alain Prost acted as team manager in an advisory capacity. e.dams had emerged from the DAMS team in 2014, with which Driot had already won numerous team and drivers' titles in other racing series. From the second season, Renault produced its own electric powertrains.

For the fifth season (2018/19), Japanese automaker Nissan entered Formula E and took over the manufacturer's license from alliance partner Renault. After the end of the fifth season, team founder Jean-Paul Driot passed away. The team's management was then taken over by his sons Gregory and Olivier, who were unable to match their father's success, however, and later sold the team to Nissan.

The DAMS name thus disappeared from Formula E. In the 2024 season, Nissan competed with drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Oliver Rowland. Rowland won two races and fought for the championship title until the end of the season, but only finished fourth. For the new season, Nissan signed Norman Nato as Rowland's new team-mate.
