In India, Mahindra has been one of the largest and most successful car manufacturers for a couple of years. In Europe, too, the Mumbai-based company is getting on better and better: Mahindra now employs more than 180,000 people in over 100 countries. Mahindra Racing is the motorsport offshoot of the brand and made a name for itself in the Moto3 motorcycle category even before its Formula E entry in 2014. Since 2017, Mahindra, who were supported by Spanish racing team Campos Grand Prix in the early years, have focused exclusively on racing in the electric series.

In the 2016/17 season, Mahindra celebrated 3rd place in the team standings with Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist at the wheel  - the biggest success for the racing team to date. Team boss Frederic Bertrand's squad has been using a powertrain developed by ZF Friedrichshafen since the 2021 season. In the 2023 season, the team competed with the two drivers Oliver Rowland and Lucas di Grassi, who switched from Venturi to the Indians.

After a very difficult first Gen3 season, in which the powertrain proved to be uncompetitive, both drivers left the team again. In 2024, Mahindra Racing competed with Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries. The team showed an upward trend, but reorganised itself technically for the 2024/25 season. The partnership with ZF was terminated. With the new powertrain, the team was significantly more competitive and finished the season in fourth place in the teams' standings.
