1,000 points for Mahindra - Edo Mortara scores a Formula E milestone in Miami

In Miami, Mahindra had something to celebrate. The Indian Formula E team finally reached the 1,000-point mark after eleven seasons. The team has Swiss driver Edoardo Mortara to thank for this milestone. He was one of the drivers who had no time problems with the Attack Mode after the red flag and was therefore classified in fifth place. These ten points mean a total of 1,007 points for Mahindra Racing in the electric series!

Mahindra is the eighth team in Formula E to score more than 1,000 points. Only McLaren, Kiro Cupra and DS Penske (of the current teams) have yet to cross this threshold, although in the case of DS the time before the merger is also taken into account. DS Techeetah was the team to beat a few years ago and earned over 1,000 points with Jean-Eric-Vergne. The current leader is Nissan with 1,750 points!

Despite points, a difficult race

Mahindra impressed in qualifying in Miami. Both drivers were allowed to start in the top 10. Nyck de Vries even made it into the quarter-finals and took a strong fifth place. Things also went well for the Dutchman in the race. He collected a number of lead laps and was in contention for the top positions for a long time. Due to a technical problem, however, he narrowly missed out on the points: "Until the technical problem, it promised to be a strong race. I had a good start and we were able to fight at the front."

Mortara drove an unremarkable race at the beginning, but shortly before the red flag the Swiss made it up to second place. After the restart he had to fight against numerous drivers in Attack Mode, but in the end he was still classified in fifth place. He did not find the race easy: "Formula E can change from one moment to the next. Today perhaps didn't go as we had imagined, but that's the nature of motorsport sometimes."

Nevertheless, both are happy about the points haul. Nyck de Vries praises his team-mate: "The team was able to score some good points with Edo and we are looking ahead to Monaco with the aim of continuing our recent progress." In the teams' standings, Mahindra overtook Maserati, much to the delight of team principal Frederic Bertrand: "We have made up another place in the championship. So there is great satisfaction, despite a certain disappointment, because more could have been possible today."

Mahindra on the upswing - good start to the season

For the team, which has been taking part in the racing series since season 1, the first five races went better than in recent years. Bertrand praised Mahindra's run of success: "We continue to qualify at least one car for the duels and score points in every race. We now have a good series of races to look back on." In fact, either Mortara or de Vries have always made it into the qualifying duels so far. In Jeddah, it was even both drivers!

With 51 points in the teams' standings after five races, Mahindra has achieved more than in the last few years in total. Since season 8, the Indians have always missed the 50-point mark at the end of the season! The team wants to build on this good form. Edoardo Mortara wants to continue the series in Monaco: "We have brought some new developments with us to Miami and are happy with the progress we are making. That gives me confidence for Monaco and I hope that this positive trend continues."

We will find out on 3 and 4 May at the double header in Monaco whether Mahindra will continue to compete for valuable points!
