2 collisions at the Berlin E-Prix involving Sebastien Buemi & Nick Cassidy: "Didn't feel anything"

It was one of several tricky scenes in the tightly packed field of Sunday's race at the Berlin E-Prix: Nick Cassidy collided with Sebastien Buemi and damaged his front wing in the process. The damage was so extensive that the New Zealander had to come into the pits to change the wing. Buemi, however, was able to continue and finished a strong fourth.

Buemi and Cassidy had already been involved in a collision: On lap 2, Buemi drove alongside Edoardo Mortara on the inside on the approach to turn 6. In front of them were Nyck de Vries and Cassidy, also side by side. When turning in, the two Swiss drivers made contact, causing Mortara to hit his team-mate, who had also turned in, on the right rear wheel. The latter lost control and slid into Cassidy. This damaged the suspension of de Vries' Mahindra and he had to retire from the race.

Cassidy rages on the radio: "What an idiot!"

"This de Vries is such an idiot, man. Why he drives like this," Cassidy raged against the Dutchman on the radio afterwards. "My car I think is okay, but that was so obvious: we are four wide and he moves under braking and then just hits me. We are lap 2 of this 40-lap race. It's funny, because he gave me shit about Imola and says he never make a mistake in WEC."

One week ago, Cassidy lost control of his Peugeot racing car after just a few metres on cold tyres in his debut race in the World Endurance Championship and spun into the gravel.

Lap 8 saw the second scene involving both drivers. Once again, the approach to turn 6 was the scene. Cassidy collided with Buemi and damaged his front wing, forcing him to pit at the end of the lap

"What the fuck is that about," Cassidy said again on the team radio. "He just moves completely once I moved. I'm fucked on the front wing. Buemi just moved completely in reaction to me and just took me out."

Buemi: "This happens in a race like this"

"I didn't feel anything about it", said Buemi after the race when asked by e-Formula.news. "I only saw it now on Instagram. My team-mate lapped very early and then I swerved slightly to the left. But he was also moving and was right there. These things happen in a race like this, it's difficult."

Nick Cassidy had to take a doping test after the race and was therefore not available for an interview and did not want to comment on the two situations afterwards to e-Formula.news.

In the overall standings, Cassidy dropped back to sixth place after the race, with Buemi in ninth place. In less than two weeks, both will have another opportunity to score points: Then another double-header will take place in Monaco.
