"A conversation we should have" - Team tactics at Jaguar for the Formula E world championship showdown

The Formula E season finale in London (20/21 July) could see both Jaguar drivers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy battling it out for the drivers' championship title - a situation that is both fortunate and difficult for the British team. A situation that is not easy for Jaguar to manage.
If you think of team-internal agreements at a Formula E season finale, images from last year come immediately to mind: Cassidy, whose championship chances were ruined after coming into contact with then team-mate Sebastien Buemi, and an angry Jake Dennis, who clashed with Pascal Wehrlein.
This season, the situation is almost even more precarious: Cassidy could have to fight for the title directly with his Jaguar team-mate Evans. He currently has a twelve-point lead over Evans and Wehrlein, who are level on points. For the two drivers, who have known each other since childhood, and the team, it is a situation that is both pleasing and complex.
"This is one of the better problems you can have as a team, and it would be perfect if one of us ends up on top," says Evans. When asked if there will be any discussions at Jaguar before the season finale as to what they will do in the event of direct duel, he says: "That's a conversation we should have. It won't be easy to manage this well if we actually get into this situation."
"The last person I want to fight too hard with"
"But we both know what's at stake and have a lot of respect for each other. Nick has had such a great season and is really the last person I want to fight too hard with. As far as the drivers' title is concerned, whoever does the better job will win," Evans continues.
However, that could also be Porsche drivers Wehrlein or even Antonio Felix da Costa, should the Portuguese driver be able to continue his impressive run of recent races. This means that Cassidy and Evans will first have to make sure that one of the Jaguar drivers is at the top.
"Hopefully Antonio will stop winning"
"Our biggest focus is to beat the Porsche guys, and that will be a tough battle. We know that Porsche has a strong car and that Antonio and Pascal are in good form," says Evans. This doesn't only apply to the drivers' championship: Jaguar is 33 points ahead of Porsche in the teams' standings, but the reverse is true in the manufacturers' standings, where Porsche is 20 points ahead of the "big cat".
So everything is coming to a head ahead of the season finale in London. "I'm hoping for a fair fight and I'm looking forward to it," says Evans. "Second place in Portland puts me in a good position for London, because I'm only twelve points off the top and that obviously gives me confidence." He jokingly adds: "Hopefully Antonio will stop winning so that we have a chance."
The season finale in the British capital takes place on 20 and 21 July.
