"A perfect venue for Formula E": Longo confirms Berlin E-Prix in Tempelhof for further seasons

For Formula E, a race in the German capital Berlin has been an integral part of the racing calendar since its first season. This will not change for the time being: Formula E co-founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo has confirmed the Berlin-Tempelhof venue for several more seasons.
The former Berlin Tempelhof Airport and the Formula E electric racing series have been firmly linked since the first season of the racing series. In each of the eleven previous seasons, the German capital has hosted at least one race - with the exception of season 2, always at Tempelhofer Feld, the site of the former airport. "So this is definitely a perfect venue for Formula E", Alberto Longo told e-Formula.news.
The contract with the unusual and versatile venue has been signed for several more years, he explains, making it clear that a change of venue is not on the cards - contrary to some circulating rumours to the contrary. However, Longo did not want to reveal how many more years the contract is valid for.
Longo: "The versatility is very helpful for us"
The switch to the fourth generation of Formula E cars for the coming season, which will bring bigger and faster cars, means that current race tracks, such as the ExCeL in London, will no longer be able to host races. In Berlin, on the other hand, the conditions are different and much better, says Longo: "The versatility of the venue is very helpful for us, as the performance of the car is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how big the car is. We can adapt because we can change the layout of the track immediately. A wide piece of asphalt on which we can basically realise any track layout we want."
In addition, Tempelhofer Feld is very centrally located in the city, which makes it easy to reach by public transport. "We are moving more towards hybrid, this hybrid model, which is basically racing in the city centre but at a private venue that we can ultimately even expand." This describes the Berlin circuit perfectly.
With the long-term contract for the Berlin venue and the conditions there, which can be easily adapted to the further development of the racing cars, nothing stands in the way of a long-term continuation of the Formula E races at Tempelhofer Feld. A race in Berlin in the coming season seems to be a foregone conclusion.
