This year, Formula E will once again be organising a test day just for Formula E newcomers on the day after the Madrid E-Prix. Two sessions of three hours each will take place on Sunday 22 March. We will update this news ticker regularly and list all drivers as soon as they have been confirmed by the teams.

>>> Andretti confirms Slater & Voisin

[03/16 | 2:00 pm] With Andretti, the last of the ten teams has now confirmed its two drivers for the rookie test: Freddie Slater and Callum Voisin will drive for the US team. Slater, who is just 17 years old, will make his Formula E debut in Madrid. He is part of the Audi Formula 1 team’s junior programme and won the Formula 4 championships in both the United Arab Emirates and Italy in 2024. He is currently competing in Formula 3, where he finished second at the season opener in Melbourne and is currently third in the overall standings.

Voisin, on the other hand, had already gained his first Formula E experience at the 2025 rookie test in Berlin. The Briton was driving for Cupra Kiro at the time and finished fourth in the afternoon session. The 2023 GB3 champion will compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup UK this year as a Porsche Junior, following two seasons in Formula 3, which he finished in 12th and 14th place overall.

>>> Martins & Pulling test for Nissan

[03/16 | 8:00 am] Nissan has announced its rookie line-up for Madrid: alongside Abbi Pulling, Victor Martins will be taking the wheel for the team this year. Pulling, the team’s official simulator and rookie driver, has already gained some experience in Formula E cars. The British driver was fastest in the first women’s test in 2024 and finished second in the women’s test in 2025. Pulling won the F1 Academy in 2024 and has been competing in the GB3 series ever since.

Martins, the 2022 Formula 3 champion, took part in the rookie test for Nissan the following year; a few months later, he also got behind the wheel for the team during a session at the pre-season test in Valencia. Having failed to make his mark in Formula 2, he is competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year for Alpine. He is also a development driver for Williams in Formula 1.

>>> Cian Shields drives for Cupra Kiro

[03/13 | 3:00 pm] A surprise at Cupra Kiro: the team has confirmed British driver Cian Shields as their second driver for the rookie test in Madrid, rather than Pepe Marti, who was originally eligible to take part.

Shields finished runner-up in the Euroformula Open in 2023 and will be driving a Formula E car for the first time. He currently races for AIX Racing in Formula 2, where he is still waiting for his first point after 33 starts.

>>> Citroen tests with Joshua Dürksen & Theo Pourchaire

[03/13 | 1:00 pm] Unsurprisingly, Citroen Racing has announced French driver Theo Pourchaire as its driver for the rookie test. Pourchaire, the 2023 Formula 2 champion, has already driven the team’s Gen3 Evo car during the rookie training session in Miami, where he finished second. This year, he will be competing in the World Endurance Championship for the Stellantis brand Peugeot.

Joshua Dürksen will be driving the team’s second car. The Paraguayan of German descent is making his Formula E debut. He has been competing in Formula 2 since 2024, where he won the sprint race for Invicta Racing at the season opener in Melbourne a few days ago. Dürksen is also a development driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

>>> Mahindra confirms Kush Maini & Theophile Nael

[03/13 | 10:00 am] Unsurprisingly, Mahindra Racing has confirmed its test and reserve driver, Kush Maini, for the rookie test in Madrid. The Indian driver already took part in last year’s rookie test in Berlin, where he set the fastest time.

The second Mahindra car will be driven by Théophile Nael. The 19-year-old Frenchman was crowned champion of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship in 2023 and won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2025. In 2026, he will compete for Campos in Formula 3.

>>> Nikita Bedrin & Daniil Kvyat test for DS Penske

[03/13 | 8:00 am] DS Penske has announced its driver line-up for the rookie test in Madrid: the two Russian drivers, Nikita Bedrin and Daniil Kvyat, will take the wheel for the team on 22 March – albeit under a neutral flag. Bedrin has previously driven for the team at the rookie training session in Berlin in 2025 and in Miami in January. Kvyat has been a regular participant in rookie tests since 2023, at that time still for Nio 333. He drove for DS Penske for the first time in Jeddah in 2025.

>>> Jaguar confirms Bryce Aron & Juju Noda

[03/12 | 07:45 pm] Jaguar has presented its two Formula E rookies for the rookie test in Madrid: Bryce Aron and Juju Noda will drive the two cars for the factory team. While Noda, from Japan, already competed in the women's test in Valencia, Aron will be driving a Formula E car for the first time. The American is currently competing in Indy NXT and will be contesting his third season here for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2026.

>>> Zak O'Sullivan drives 2nd Envision car

[03/11 | 03:45 pm] Envision Racing's line-up for the rookie test in Madrid is complete: Zak O'Sullivan will drive the team's second Gen3 Evo car.  The Briton has already sat in the team's customer Jaguar several times and most recently set the fastest time in the first free practice session in Miami.

>>> Bianca Bustamante drives for Cupra Kiro again

[03/10 | 6:15 pm] Cupra Kiro has confirmed its first driver for the rookie test: Bianca Bustamante will once again take the wheel of the customer Porsche in Madrid. The Filipina is the team's official development driver and already drove Cupra Kiro's Gen3 Evo car last year in Berlin and at the women's test in Valencia. In 2026, she will compete in the Eurocup 3 series. It has not yet been officially announced who will drive the team's second car. However, we suspect it will be Pepe Marti, who is still considered a rookie this season despite his regular cockpit with the team.

>>> Richard Verschoor and Hugh Barter to test for Lola Yamaha Abt

[03/10 | 10:55 am] The Lola Yamaha Abt team has announced that Richard Verschoor and Hugh Barter will be their driver duo for the rookie test in Jarama. Barter is the team's official simulator driver and has already gained experience behind the wheel of a Formula E car on four occasions. Most recently, the Australian-Japanese racing driver piloted a Lola Yamaha Abt car during the rookie free practice in Miami.

For Dutchman Richard Verschoor, this will be his first experience in a Formula E car. Verschoor won the 2019 Macau Grand Prix and scored several victories in Formula 2, a championship in which he competed for five years.

"I’m excited to be joining Lola Yamaha Abt for the Rookie Test in Madrid", Verschoor explains. "Driving the T001 will be my first outing in a Formula E car. I’m eager to learn and push forward together with the team."

>>> Envision Racing confirms Ella Lloyd

[03/06 | 03:00 pm] Welsh driver Ella Lloyd will once again be behind the wheel of Envision Racing's Gen3 Evo car in Madrid. The 20-year-old, who is part of McLaren's junior programme, will contest her second season in the F1 Academy in 2026 after securing five podium finishes there last year. She already sat in the Envision cockpit during the women's tests as part of the Forme E pre-season test drives in Valencia 2025, ultimately finishing in fifth place.

>>> Porsche makes the start: Ayhancan Güven & Elia Weiss drive again

[03/04 | 07:00 am] Porsche is the first team to announce its two drivers for the rookie test in Madrid: DTM champion Ayhancan Güven and Formula 4 driver Elia Weiss, who is just 16 years old, will drive the team's two Porsche 99X Electric. Both already drove the rookie test for the team in Berlin in 2025, while Güven also drove the rookie training session in Miami. The Turkish driver is regarded as a very hot candidate for a seat in the second Porsche works team, which we will see from the Gen4 era in Formula E.

Nissan will most certainly go with Pulling and Mini as usual, but it would be interesting if they could bring Tsunoda aboard.
