At the Madrid E-Prix, as at every race in the Formula E World Championship, it is the task of the race stewards of the FIA to check compliance with the Technical and Sporting Regulations. If they find an offence, it is their job to determine the penalty. As usual, you will find a list of all the weekend's decisions in this article.

At the 2026 Madrid E-Prix, the chairman of the stewards, Matthias Heinz, the international steward Achim Loth and the national steward Alberto Lindon Fernandez will take on this task. They will be supported by former racing driver Andy Soucek. The Austro-Spaniard with French and Czech roots became champion in the Spanish Formula 3 in 2005 and won the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2009, after which he was a test and reserve driver for the Virgin Racing Formula 1 team. Soucek then switched to GT racing and has also been involved in the management of the Formula 1 race track in Austin since 2023. In 2016, he was a driver adviser in Formula E for the first time.

Penalties during and after the race

  • Zane Maloney received a drive-through penalty for using more than the maximum permitted 0.5 kWh of energy on the way to the starting grid.
  • Oliver Rowland also received a drive-through penalty for using more than the maximum permitted power on lap 1.
  • Nyck de Vries was been given a five-second time penalty for causing a collision with Pascal Wehrlein. The Dutchman also received a penalty point on his racing licence.
  • Taylor Barnard received a ten-second time penalty for causing a collision with Jean-Eric Vergne. The DS Penske driver also received a penalty point.
  • Taylor Barnard received a further five-second time penalty for pushing Nico Müller off the track. The Briton got another penalty point for this action.
  • Nyck de Vries also received a further five-second time penalty for crossing the line at the end of his pit box during the Pit Boost pit stop.
  • Sebastien Buemi was given a reprimand for pushing Norman Nato off the track at the exit of turn 1. As the situation was very close and he could have given him just a tiny more space to prevent this, the stewards decided against a time penalty.
  • Sebastien Buemi received a time penalty of 1.9 seconds for not following the race director's instructions. He did not give Jake Dennis, who was in Attack Mode, enough space when he attempted to overtake in turn 2. As the two finished in 6th place (Buemi) and 7th place (Dennis), the stewards considered such a time penalty to be the fairest option to allow the two drivers to swap places. A higher time penalty, for example of two seconds, would have caused Buemi to lose further positions.
