As with every Formula E race, the race stewards of the FIA have the task of checking compliance with the Technical and Sporting Regulations. If an offence is found, they must also decide on the penalty. As usual, you will find a list of all the decisions made by the Formula E race stewards in this article.
Sydney Davis Yagel, Gerd Ennser and Achim Loth will take on this task at the 2025 Miami E-Prix. They will be supported by former racing driver Pedro Couceiro. The Portuguese driver can look back on a 20-year career as a professional racing driver and was active as a safety car driver in the WEC World Endurance Championship after his career ended.
Penalties ahead of the Miami E-Prix
Max Günther was demoted five positions for the race in Miami after causing a collision with Antonio Felix da Costa in the second race in Jeddah.
Penalties in free practice
Nico Müller received a fine of 2,500 euros because in free practice 1 the tyre pressure on his Andretti was below the minimum specified by tyre supplier Hankook.
Robin Frijns had to pay 1,000 euros because he drove to his garage under his own power in the 1st free practice session. The pit lane at Homestead-Miami Speedway has a typical US layout with a wall in front of the garages. The drivers have to stop in front of their garages and then be pushed to the pits.
Max Günther also had to pay a fine of 1,000 euros after the first free practice session because his DS Penske was in ready-to-move status during the pit boost pit stop test. This is prohibited for safety reasons.
Zane Maloney was fined 1,000 euros because the State-of-Charge of his battery was below the specified minimum when he carried out a pit boost pit stop.
Penalties during and after the race
Nick Cassidy received a five-second time penalty for disregarding the track limits three times during the race. The New Zealander also received two penalty points on his racing license.
Race winner Norman Nato subsequently received a time penalty of ten seconds because his attack mode had not yet expired when he crossed the finish line. He was therefore only classified in sixth place.
Robin Frijns also had ten penalty seconds added to his race time for the same reason. Instead of 3rd place, the Envision driver finished 8th.
The same applied to Oliver Rowland: here, too, the attack mode had not yet expired when he crossed the finish line, so he was subsequently penalized ten seconds, which meant he was only classified in 10th place instead of 4th.
Sam Bird was also affected: The McLaren driver had also not completely used up the attack mode and had ten seconds added to his race time retrospectively. As a result, he dropped from 6th place to 18th.
The fifth driver to cross the finish line with Attack Mode activated was Taylor Barnard. Here too, the consequence was a ten-second time penalty, which knocked the Briton out of the points.
Zane Maloney subsequently received a five-second time penalty for cutting the chicane short without stopping. The Lola Yamaha ABT driver also dropped out of the points.
