The second round of the double-header in Saudi Arabia was characterised by many overtaking manoeuvres and different race strategies. Energy management in particular played a key role in the race. In the end, Antonio Felix da Costa came out on top and celebrated his 13th victory in Formula E. He thus extended his strong record in the series and continues to be one of the most successful drivers in the field.
Particularly noteworthy: this was only Felix da Costa's fifth race with Jaguar after switching from Porsche. The fact that he has already achieved a victory after such a short time working with the team speaks volumes for both his rapid integration into the team and the set-up work in the background. The Portuguese was correspondingly satisfied: "It was great to have the pace to compete for victory so early in the season."
The success also confirms Jaguar's current strong form. The team already stood at the top of the podium at the race in Miami - back then with Mitch Evans at the wheel. The consistency on different track layouts indicates that the overall package of vehicle, software strategy and race management is currently working particularly well.
Compared to the first race of the weekend, the focus in the second race shifted even more clearly towards energy management and timing. Several drivers had to adapt their strategy during the race. Felix da Costa describes: "There was an extreme amount of management required. We had to save a lot of energy, but the team guided me perfectly through the attack modes." The precise coordination of the activation phases in particular proved to be a decisive factor in the battle for the top positions.
Despite the success, the weekend did not go smoothly for him. He spoke openly about initial difficulties: "I had problems understanding the software properly. It's so competitive - you have to do an incredible amount right to win. That's why it feels particularly good." The learning curve within the new environment was steep, which made the intensive dialogue with the engineers all the more important.
His conclusion after his first Jaguar victory was correspondingly positive: "Things are going well, I'm having fun and living my dream. I can't complain."
