Austin, Brands Hatch & Zandvoort confirmed: Formula E unveils its 2026/27 Gen4 race calendar featuring 21 races

Following the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Formula E has unveiled its race calendar for the first Gen4 season, 2026/27. For the first time, 21 races will take place in 13 different cities. With the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Brands Hatch and the former Formula 1 circuit in Zandvoort, the electric series will visit three new circuits next season.

The first surprise comes right at the start of the season: Unlike in Season 12, Formula E wants to avoid a clash with the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi – which will be held from 4 to 6 December 2026 – for the first Gen4 race. The fear is apparently too great that the motorsport world will once again focus on a thrilling title battle at the final race when the electric racing series’ new cars compete for World Championship points for the first time.

The first Gen4 race will therefore take place on 18 and 19 December in Jeddah. This means that, right at the start of the first Gen4 season, motorsport fans can look forward to a spectacular night race in Saudi Arabia – with races on Friday and Saturday as usual.

America leg in the new year

In the new year, the season will then continue on 16 January with the Mexico City E-Prix, before two race weekends are scheduled in the United States in February. The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, well known from Formula 1, features on the calendar for the first time, before the series returns to the Miami circuit two weeks later. The following month features just a single race: the Sao Paulo E-Prix on 13 March, before the series takes a break for several weeks over Easter.

The series then travels on to Sanya on the Chinese island of Hainan, where the Sanya E-Prix took place just a few days ago. The race will be held on 17 April.

May to June: Ten races in Europe

This is followed by the European leg of the racing calendar, featuring five double-headers. The Berlin E-Prix kicks things off on 8 and 9 May – the race in the German capital is taking place for the 13th time and has been a fixture on the racing calendar since Formula E’s debut season. The Monaco E-Prix takes place just one week later, a new situation in the Season 13 race calendar.

This is followed by the London E-Prix, which, however, will no longer be held in the city itself – the circuit previously used at the ExCeL exhibition centre in the British capital is not suitable for the new Gen4 cars. Instead, the series is moving to Brands Hatch, around 30 minutes from the city centre. From 1964 to 1986, Formula 1 held the British Grand Prix here, alternating annually with Silverstone.

In June, Formula E will race at Zandvoort for the first time. The circuit, situated 30 km west of Amsterdam, right on the North Sea, will still host a Formula 1 race in 2026; the current contract expires after that. A special feature: the first Dutch E-Prix will be held as a double-header on Friday and Saturday - something that has only happened before in Saudi Arabia (Diriyah and Jeddah).

This will be followed just one week later by the Madrid E-Prix, which made a lasting impression on the organisers of the electric racing series when it made its debut in 2026. According to rumours, the Circuito del Jarama, located north of Madrid, is said to have secured a six-year contract with Formula E and will therefore feature on the race calendar throughout the entire Gen4 era.

Asian races round off the season

The Asian leg brings the calendar to a close. First, Formula E will race in Shanghai again on 10 and 11 July, before the series travels to Japan for the season finale. The Tokyo E-Prix will once again be held on a street circuit in the city. A particular highlight for fans in Europe: Both races will be held as night races - just as they were this year. This means the 2026/27 Formula E World Championship will both start and finish under floodlights.

There will therefore be no return to Jakarta next season, nor will there be a race in Italy. However, both countries remain important markets for Formula E, and a return is being sought for the future.

Longo: "Each stop has been chosen to deliver maximum drama"

"We are incredibly proud to unveil our biggest and most ambitious calendar to date," says Alberto Longo, Chief Championship Officer of Formula E. "Expanding to 21
races across 13 iconic cities is a huge milestone, and welcoming world-renowned tracks like COTA in Austin, Zandvoort, and Brands Hatch provides the ultimate stage to showcase our new Gen4 era."

"Every stop on this calendar has been chosen to deliver maximum sporting drama," adds Longo. "Launching the season with our first-ever opener under the lights in Jeddah to showcase the speed of these Gen4 cars sets a spectacular tone, while grouping our races into distinct continental clusters ensures we do so as sustainably as possible. The tracks are faster, the competition is fiercer, and we cannot wait to get this historic season underway."

2 date clashes with the World Endurance Championship

Whilst scheduling clashes with the World Endurance Championship (WEC) were successfully avoided in the 2025/26 season, this will not be possible for the first Gen4 season. The Monaco double-header falls on the same weekend as the WEC round at Spa, whilst the Shanghai E-Prix clashes with the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo. A driver with contracts with teams in both series would therefore have to miss four Formula E races if their WEC contract took priority. It is quite possible that drivers will therefore have to choose between the two racing series.
