Envision Racing made a solid start to the new season at the 2025/26 Formula E World Championship season opener in Sao Paulo. Both Sebastien Buemi and his new team-mate Joel Eriksson finished in the points in an eventful race. Eriksson achieved the best result of his Formula E career to date in 7th place. While there was a feeling in the team after the race that more could have been possible, they are still positive about the rest of the season thanks to the strong Jaguar package.

Qualifying for the first race of the twelfth Formula E season went quite well, at least for Formula E veteran Buemi. Although he did not make it past the group stage, he qualified in 10th place on the grid. Things did not go quite as well for team-mate Eriksson. In the race, the team split the strategies of the two drivers. Buemi decided to use the attack mode earlier in the race. Eriksson initially stayed at the back of the field to save energy.

Buemi: "The safety car was very unfortunate for us"

When the Swede activated his first attack mode, he was even able to work his way up to sixth place. Later in the race, an accident between Edoardo Mortara and Lucas di Grassi triggered a safety car period. At this point, both Envision drivers were already in their second attack mode, which they were therefore unable to fully utilise and ultimately finished the race in 7th and 8th place.

"I think I could have done better," said Buemi in a video that Envision shared on social media after the race. "Nevertheless, I am happy. To take these points is good. The safety car was very unfortunate for us."

Eriksson was also pleased that both drivers were able to score points: "It's always a good weekend when both cars score points. We made good progress in the race. We were very efficient at the start. In terms of energy, we even had the strongest car in the field, which shows that we have a strong package. So I feel confident for Mexico," he ventured a small outlook.

Eriksson with his best Formula E result

For the Swede, who replaced Nico Müller at Team Dragon/Penske Autosport for eight races in 2021 and took the wheel in place of Robin Frijns at Envision in 2024, seventh place in Sao Paulo was the best result of his Formula E career to date. Previously, this had been ninth place at the 2024 Berlin E-Prix. Team boss Sylvain Filippi also had words of praise for his new regular driver: "Joel showed strong pace and very good race management in the race."

The Jaguar customer team sees itself in a similarly strong position for the Mexico City E-Prix and is cautiously positive about the future - even if Filippi warns: "The season is still long. It is a marathon, not a sprint. We have to bring the cars home in one piece every time and score points." The second round of the 2025/26 Formula E World Championship will take place in four weeks' time, on 10 January 2026.
