e-Formula.news Season Awards 2024: Two gold medals each for Pascal Wehrlein & Mitch Evans

The results of the e-Formula.news Season Awards 2024 are in! Newly crowned Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein won gold in two categories this year and also the most medals overall (5). Mitch Evans also won gold twice, as in the previous year. Category wins also went to Oliver Rowland, Taylor Barnard, Sam Bird and Jake Dennis. Team of the Year was Jaguar TCS Racing.

As in the previous year, the evaluation was based in part on facts and statistics that we collected over the course of the season. In addition, there was once again a public vote in which numerous international Formula E fans took part. The more heavily weighted results of the survey were combined with the votes of a six-member jury of experts for the evaluation. Thank you for taking part - here are the results!

Driver of the Year

Three drivers battled it out for the championship at the season finale in London, but the 2024 Driver of the Year was - somewhat surprisingly - Oliver Rowland! Over the course of the season, the Nissan driver achieved the highest average of all Formula E drivers with a score of 8.03 (our team grades all drivers after each race). In second place was Pascal Wehrlein with an average of 8.01, ahead of Nick Cassidy (7.41).


Team of the Year

Team of the Year 2024 is Jaguar TCS Racing. Although the "big cat" dramatically missed out on the drivers' title with both drivers, both the teams' world championship and the new manufacturers' trophy went to Jaguar. With Evans and Cassidy, the British team had an extremely strong driver duo, and the team behind them also did a great job - both in qualifying set-up and in race trim. Silver went to runner-up TAG Heuer Porsche, and bronze went to Nissan, although the Japanese team had actually only finished fourth overall behind DS Penske.


Qualifyer of the Year

The best driver in qualifying this year was Pascal Wehrlein with an average grid position of 5.3, which is all the more astonishing given that qualifying had been Porsche's biggest weakness in 2023. Wehrlein undercut last year's winner Mitch Evans, who finished second with an average grid position of 5.7. Bronze went to Jean-Eric Vergne (5.9).


Racer of the Year

In the "Racer of the Year" category, however, Mitch Evans came out on top. With an average race result of 5.8, he took gold by a narrow margin from Pascal Wehrlein (5.9). Bronze also went to Jean-Eric Vergne (6.7). Quite surprising, as the Frenchman only finished fifth overall in the world championship.


Mr. Consistency

In terms of consistency, there were three drivers who finished in the top 10 14 times in 16 races this season. Therefore, the individual positions in the points were decisive in this category. Mitch Evans came out on top, once again beating Pascal Wehrlein and Jean-Eric Vergne.


Rookie of the Year

The best Formula E rookie in 2024 was clearly Taylor Barnard - both the fans in the voting and the jury agreed on that. The young Brit spontaneously stepped in for the injured Sam Bird in Monaco and impressed with good performances. Barnard was particularly brilliant in the two races in Berlin ending up in the top 10 twice. At the end of the season, he finished just three points behind Maserati rookie Jehan Daruvala, who had, however, contested the entire season as a regular driver and won silver in this category. Bronze went to Paul Aron, who took the wheel for Envision at Tempelhof.


Leader of the Year

Pascal Wehrlein (87) completed the most laps in the lead. Silver went to Mitch Evans, who led the field for a total of 79 laps. His team-mate Nick Cassidy took bronze (73 laps).


Recovery Drive of the Year

The most position gains in a race were made by Jake Dennis, who was still the reigning Formula E champion at the time. The Brit made up 15 positions in the first race of the Misano E-Prix to ultimately cross the finish line in second place from 16th on the grid. Silver and bronze went to Oliver Rowland (Berlin 2/2) and Sebastien Buemi (London 2/2), each of whom gained 13 positions in one race.


Overtake of the Year

Sam Bird performed the overtaking manoeuvre of the year at the Sao Paulo E-Prix. On the last lap of the race, he went round the outside of race leader Mitch Evans to secure his first race win for McLaren in spectacular and surprising fashion. The overtake for silver also happened in Sao Paulo: Oliver Rowland cleverly positioned himself behind Wehrlein and Dennis who were fighting for P3 to overtake both of them in the final metres and storm onto the podium. Taylor Barnard claimed his second medal in Berlin with a successful attack on Dennis and team-mate Hughes.


Race of the Year

In terms of entertainment value, there was nothing like the London E-Prix this year. The best race of the year from the perspective of most fans and experts was the title-deciding Sunday race, in which Cassidy was hit by Felix da Costa, Evans dramatically missed the attack mode and Wehrlein won the world title. The second best race took place just 24 hours earlier, when Wehrlein beat Evans in an epic duel for the win. The Sao Paulo E-Prix, with its thrilling final phase, was also very well received and was honoured with bronze.


Livery of the Year

Porsche presented the best car livery this year: at the first Tokyo E-Prix, the Germans wrapped their cars in an eye-catching pink colour that won over many. Silver was also won by a special livery that was only used once: the black and gold casino look from DS Penske at the Monaco E-Prix. Many fans thought that the two ABT Cupra cars had the most beautiful standard livery.
