"Extremely complicated" - Sebastien Buemi fears Pit Boost chaos in Formula E

Envision driver Sebastien Buemi is concerned that the Formula E racing format could become unnecessarily complicated. While the Pit Boost will be added to the Attack Mode for the first time at the Jeddah E-Prix, the electric series has probably put further ideas on hold for the time being.

For the eleventh season, Formula E was planning various changes to the race format. According to The Race, one of the ideas was to introduce a "Golden Lap". The driver who leads two randomly selected laps of the race was to receive bonus points. However, this plan was not realised.

The Pit Boost, which has been repeatedly postponed due to technical problems, is coming though. After various tests, it will be used for the first time at the Jeddah E-Prix in mid-February, although it is not yet clear on which of the two race days.

Formula E "dynamic enough for changes"

Envision driver Buemi, champion of season 2, recently expressed his opinion on Racingnews365 about possible changes to the format: "In principle, I am happy to experiment. Even if there is no added value in the end, I don't see a problem with that."

In his opinion, Formula E is dynamic enough to implement changes if necessary and to retroactively change them again if they do not produce the desired result.

Buemi nevertheless believes that some changes could complicate the format too much for everyone involved: "When the Attack Charge (Pit Boost) is added, it becomes extremely complicated to follow the rules in the first place. Whether you are allowed to stop or not depends on many factors"

"There are already many features"

"It depends on which lap you stop in and also whether you still have to use the Attack Mode. If you then also add the 'Golden Lap', there are already a lot of features", says Buemi. After all, his last two concerns have been put aside for the time being.

"Of course there could be too many changes, but until we have tried it for the first time, it is too difficult for me to say whether there are definitely too many. I'm willing to try, but I think it might be a bit too much for a 45-minute race," concludes the Swiss.

Apparently, Formula E has taken the concerns to heart. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the Pit Boost will work in combination with the reinvigorated Attack Mode on 14 or 15 February in Jeddah.
