The official test drives at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in preparation for the 2025/26 Formula E World Championship are now a few days behind us. We have taken a close look at the action in Valencia and prepared a detailed statistics article. Among other things, we shed light on the performance of all drivers and teams.

Statistical peculiarities of the 2025 pre-season tests

  • Edoardo Mortara was the fastest driver in pre-season testing for the second time since December 2021, when he was still driving for the Mercedes customer team Venturi. Maximilian Günther (three times) and Mitch Evans (twice) have also set the fastest lap time in the tests on several previous occasions.
  • The reigning Formula E world champion Oliver Rowland finished second. This means that Sebastien Buemi remains the only champion to set the fastest time in pre-season testing after winning the title - he was fastest at Donington in 2016.
  • Dan Ticktum was the busiest driver at the tests: The Brit drove a total of 292 laps - the equivalent of 985.8 kilometres - in the six sessions in his customer Porsche.
  • In contrast, Lindsay Brewer drove the fewest test kilometres in Valencia. The young American only completed 36 laps in the two sessions on Friday, which equated to 121.5 kilometres.
  • Of the regular drivers, Pepe Marti drove the shortest distance: 254 laps (857.5 km) - around 87 per cent of the kilometres of his team-mate Ticktum.
  • All in all, Envision was the busiest team in Valencia: the team completed 701 laps during the tests, which equates to 2,366.6 kilometres - almost exactly the distance from Valencia to Monaco and from there on to the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. In addition to Buemi's 283 laps, Joel Eriksson contributed 277 laps. Ella Lloyd drove 73 and Alice Powell 68 laps.
  • Cupra Kiro, on the other hand, drove the fewest kilometres: 613 laps (2,069.5 km) were completed by the Porsche customer team. In addition to Ticktum's 292 laps, Marti drove 254 laps and Marta Garcia completed 76 laps of the circuit. The team had not entered a second driver for the women's test on Friday.
  • All teams combined completed 6,424 laps during the test week, which equates to a total distance of 21,687.4 kilometres. This surpassed last year's record by more than 800 kilometres - even though only ten teams took part instead of eleven and only 14 instead of 19 drivers were registered.

Performance analysis of the drivers & teams (350 kW)

For our performance analysis, we analysed the best times of the drivers across all sessions in Valencia. The winner in the rankings is Edoardo Mortara, who set the fastest time of 1:21.493 minutes on Tuesday morning. Hot on his heels were world champion Oliver Rowland in the Nissan, Taylor Barnard (DS Penske) and Rowland's team-mate Norman Nato, who were all within 0.009 seconds of him. They were followed by Nyck de Vries, Jake Dennis, Pascal Wehrlein, Dan Ticktum, Sebastien Buemi and Nick Cassidy in 10th place - all less than 0.2 seconds off the fastest time.

In total, all 20 regular drivers were within 0.825 seconds of each other in the overall standings. The top 19 were separated by just 0.593 seconds. Even if - as always - not all teams are likely to have shown their full performance, there are many indications that the 2025/26 season will once again be extremely close.

The order of the teams at the pre-season tests in Madrid is as follows: Mahindra ahead of Nissan, followed by DS Penske. They are followed by the Andretti customer Porsche and the works Porsche. The slowest car on a lap with 350 kW was Lola Yamaha ABT.

The ranking of the manufacturers is thus: Mahindra >>> Stellantis >>> Nissan >>> Porsche >>> Jaguar >>> Lola Yamaha

The best time for the female drivers was around 1.3 seconds behind the best time for the male drivers. Here too, Mahindra and Nissan were in the top two places: Chloe Chambers was the fastest female driver ahead of Abbi Pulling. Bianca Bustamante was third in the Cupra Kiro. Brewer (DS Penske) and Janina Schall (Porsche) fell well behind in terms of performance - in the end, they were more than six seconds down on Chambers.

Internal team lap time comparisons (only regular drivers at 350 kW)

If you compare the two team-mates with each other, it is noticeable that the drivers at Nissan and Lola Yamaha ABT set almost identical best times. At Envision, on the other hand, there was a clear difference in performance between Buemi and Eriksson.

Performance analysis of the regular drivers & teams (300 kW)

As there are major differences between the Attack mode with 350 kW and all-wheel drive and the normal 300 kW mode with rear-wheel drive, we have analysed these laps separately.

The winner in this ranking is Norman Nato, who set the fastest lap time with 300 kW in 1:23.103 minutes - just over 1.6 seconds slower than the 350 kW best time. He was followed by Dennis, the Mahindra duo of de Vries and Mortara, Evans and Cassidy.

The 20 regular drivers are slightly further apart than with 350 kW: Eriksson, also the slowest of the 20 regular drivers with 300 kW, is 0.873 seconds behind Nato. The top 10 are within 0.467 seconds of each other - significantly more spread than with full power.

With 300 kW, the order is as follows: Nissan ahead of Andretti, followed by Mahindra, Jaguar and Citroen ahead of DS Penske, Porsche and Lola Yamaha ABT. The slowest team with 300 kW was Cupra Kiro.

The ranking of the manufacturers is: Nissan >>> Porsche >>> Mahindra >>> Jaguar >>> Stellantis >>> Lola Yamaha

Internal team lap time comparisons (only regular drivers at 300 kW)

Surprisingly, there were hardly any measurable differences in performance at Cupra Kiro: both drivers were almost on the same time on their fastest 300-kW lap. There were clear differences between the Andretti, Nissan and DS Penske teams: Dennis took almost half a second off Drugovich. Nato and Barnard were also significantly faster than their team-mates.
