Formula E held its first race of 2026 in Mexico City last weekend. The race at the sold-out Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez produced some interesting statistics, milestones and curiosities.

Statistical peculiarities at the Mexico City E-Prix

  • The Mexico City E-Prix was the 150th race in Formula E history.
  • Sebastien Buemi secured his 17th pole position in Formula E. It was his first since the 2023 Berlin E-Prix, equalling the record set by Jean-Eric Vergne.
  • For his team Envision Racing, it was the 16th pole position in the racing series.
  • Nick Cassidy celebrated his twelfth Formula E victory. He thus drew level with Sam Bird and Antonio Felix da Costa in fourth place on the all-time leaderboard.
  • At the same time, it was his 27th podium finish. Here, too, he drew level with Sam Bird and Antonio Felix da Costa, but the three drivers share 5th place here.
  • For Citroen Racing, it was the first victory in the electric series under the name of the French brand. It is the second brand after Porsche to celebrate its premiere success at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
  • For the team, which previously competed under the names Venturi and MSG Racing, it was the twelfth victory overall and the first since the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix, when Stoffel Vandoorne won for Maserati MSG Racing.
  • It was the first victory for a Stellantis drive in Mexico City - despite the manufacturer having previously competed with the DS Automobiles and Maserati brands on every occasion.
  • Edoardo Mortara celebrated his 16th podium in Formula E. This means that Mortara has stood on the podium in every Formula E anniversary race. The Swiss driver even won race number 50 in Hong Kong in 2019 and race number 100 in Seoul in 2022.
  • Oliver Rowland stood on the podium for the 22nd time in total. It was the 56th podium for Nissan (including e.dams), equalling Envision Racing and now sharing the record for the most podiums.
  • With a total age of 103 years and 295 days (i.e. an average of 34 years and 220 days), Mexico City had the third-oldest podium in Formula E history. Only in Miami in 2025 (104 years, 280 days) and the first race in Puebla in 2021 (105 years, 342 days) were the participants older at the podium ceremony.
  • Even after the tenth Mexico City E-Prix, there is only one driver who has celebrated his very first podium here: Oliver Turvey in 2018.
  • Pepe Marti achieved his best finish in an E-Prix with 7th place. It was also his first ever Formula E points. He is the 70th driver in total to score points in the electric series.
  • Pascal Wehrlein (seven times) and Jake Dennis (five times) have scored points in every race they have contested at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
  • Even after his fifth Mexico City E-Prix, Dan Ticktum is still waiting for his first top 10 result. His best result: 16th place in 2025.
  • Andretti and Porsche continued their series of points-scoring results in Mexico City and have now scored points in eight consecutive races - more than any other team.
  • Jake Dennis secured the bonus point for the fastest race lap for the fourth time in total on the circuit. No other driver achieved this more than once.
  • Lucas di Grassi and Jean-Eric Vergne were the first drivers to break the 5,000 race laps mark in Formula E in Mexico City.
  • Cupra Kiro (including the predecessor teams China Racing, NextEV, Nio and ERT) became the second team in the racing series to complete 25,000 race kilometres. However, Nissan (including e.dams) has a lead of around 600 kilometres.

Average qualifying position (season)

The best qualifier of the season is Mortara, followed by Dennis and Ticktum. Joel Eriksson and Zane Maloney, on the other hand, have done poorly so far.

Pole positions (season)

Average race result (season)

Cassidy is the driver with the best average position in the race - just ahead of Rowland, both who finished on the podium in both races. Behind them is Dennis. Lucas di Grassi and Ticktum can only be found at the end of the field.

Position changes (Mexico City E-Prix)

With a total of 13 positions gained, Marti was the driver who advanced the most in Mexico City. But Cassidy (+12) and Vergne (+10) also made double-digit gains.

At the bottom of the list are Buemi (-16), Ticktum (-12) and Felix da Costa (-9). All three drivers secured very good grid positions, but retired in the race or, in Buemi's case, finished far behind.

Race laps completed (season)

Only eleven of the 20 drivers were able to cover the full distance in the first two races of the season. Nyck de Vries and Antonio Felix da Costa are no longer among them following their retirements. Ticktum was the only driver to retire from both races.

Lead laps (season)

Nico Müller took the lead in this statistic in Mexico City. With 18, he has collected exactly twice as many lead laps as his two closest rivals, Nick Cassidy and Pascal Wehrlein.

Under "other" are summarised: Antonio Felix da Costa (3), Norman Nato (2), Mitch Evans and Jean-Eric Vergne (1 each).

Performance analysis of the drivers & teams (Mexico City E-Prix)

The fastest man of the Mexico City E-Prix was Taylor Barnard. In the semi-final duel, the DS Penske driver set the best lap time of the weekend (1:05.049 minutes). Apart from him, only Mortara managed a lap time under 1:05.1 minutes, but he lost out to Barnard in the semi-final. He is followed by Buemi with his lap time from the quarter-final. Behind him were Wehrlein, who was the only driver in the top nine to set his time in the second free practice session, as well as Mitch Evans, Müller, Ticktum, Dennis, Rowland and Nyck de Vries. At the back of the field were Zane Maloney (1:06.481), Marti (1:06.729) and Felipe Drugovich (1:06.834), who was almost 1.8 seconds off his lap time.

All the drivers who made it into the duel phase of qualifying also set their best lap time there. The remaining drivers did so in the second free practice session - with the exception of Felix da Costa and Marti, who had to skip this session due to technical problems. They set their best lap time in the 1st free practice session on Friday evening.

The fastest team on one lap was DS Penske ahead of Mahindra. They were followed by Envision, Porsche and Jaguar. The slowest team in Mexico was Lola Yamaha ABT. Adjusted for the manufacturer ranking, this means: Stellantis >>> Mahindra >>> Jaguar >>> Porsche >>> Nissan >>> Lola Yamaha
