Felix da Costa after accident with Ticktum & Günther in Mexico City: "Looks stupid for me on camera"

The second round of the 2025/26 Formula E World Championship ended in disaster for Antonio Felix da Costa and Maximilian Günther. The drivers collided with each other during an action-packed race in the battle for the points. While the race ended for Felix da Costa after the collision, Günther dropped back a long way and finished the race in 12th place. Dan Ticktum, who was also involved in the crash, was also out of the race. Afterwards, Felix da Costa described his day as difficult. Günther tried to remain positive in spite of the zero result.
The race started promisingly for all the drivers involved. The three drivers started in the Top 10 and both Felix da Costa and Günther showed good pace and worked their way up a few places over the course of the race. Before the final third of the race, Felix da Costa was in a battle for position with eventual race winner Nick Cassidy and Dan Ticktum, with Günther ahead of the trio. The battle ended in a collision in turn 6 when Cassidy passed the Portuguese driver, who then collided with Günther. Ticktum was unable to get out of the way.

"I wanted to overtake Dan", described the Jaguar driver in the post-race interview. "Then a car appeared on my inside that I never saw. I think it was Cassidy. He wasn't actually next to me enough. He then hit me at the entrance to the bend, whereupon I hit the other cars. Of course, it looks stupid for me on TV. But it's up to the race stewards to decide. Despite the good pace, the day was simply difficult."
Günther: "P5 would have been very realistic"
The DS Penske driver also commented on the situation: "There were three cars fighting behind me," said Günther when asked by e-Formula.news and Motorsport aktuell. "It was then simply a chain reaction and I was where I was. I got hit from behind and spun. There was nothing we could have done differently. The race was obviously over after that. We still tried to pick up points, but it was only enough for 12th place, which is obviously a shame, but at the end of the day it's just Formula E."
"As a racing driver, you know that many things are not under your control," continued the German. "In addition to the technical aspects, there are also days like today when you are simply taken out of the races. Nevertheless, I always try to carry on with a smile, even if fifth place would have been very realistic today."
The stewards investigated the scene afterwards, but ruled it a racing accident. As a result, neither driver was penalised.
The drivers will have their next chance to score points in three weeks' time: The third Race of the season is then scheduled. For the first time, the series will be racing on a shortened version of the Miami International Autodrome, where the Evo sessions took place last year.
