Formula E will remain at Berlin-Tempelhof until at least 2027, and most probably until 2030. As Mayor Kai Wegner confirmed on Sunday, the German capital has extended the contract with the electric series and the decommissioned airport.

The Formula E contract with Tempelhof was due to expire this year. However, the collaboration has now been extended. Formula E will definitely continue to race at the former airport site for the next three years with an option for additional  three years.

The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, was a guest of honour at the race track on Sunday. As part of his visit to mark the tenth anniversary of Formula E, he announced the extension of the utilisation agreement with Tempelhof.

"Formula E belongs to Berlin. For ten years, images of the Berlin E-Prix have travelled around the world, showing Berlin as a metropolis for e-mobility and sustainable development - and Berliners as a passionate fan community," says Wegner.

"The extension of the utilisation contract for Tempelhof Airport highlights the good cooperation between Berlin and Formula E for this unique sporting event in the heart of our city."

Senator Spranger: "Momentum on the way to a sustainable future"

"I am delighted that the former Tempelhof Airport will continue to be the venue for spectacular races in the future, bringing together Berliners and fans from all over the world on its historic site," Wegner continued.

Iris Spranger, Senator for the Interior and Sport, added: "I am delighted that Formula E will continue to be an integral part of the calendar in the sporting metropolis of Berlin in the coming years. In addition to making a positive contribution to public awareness and acceptance of electromobility, this racing series provides important momentum on the road to a sustainable future."

"Visitors to Formula E can not only watch the races, but also find out about the technological innovations in the field of e-mobility. The state of Berlin will continue to play a key role in this in the coming years," says Spranger.
