Formula E: Cupra Kiro confirms Pepe Marti for Gen4 as Ticktum future remains open

Pepe Marti will continue to race for Cupra Kiro in Formula E during the Gen4 era. The US-based team has confirmed the Spaniard for the 2026/27 season following a strong rookie campaign. Marti finished his debut season with 66 points and two podium finishes in Monaco and Sanya. Who will line up alongside him, however, remains unclear.

Marti only made the step from Formula 2 to Formula E ahead of last season. The 21-year-old quickly found his feet after joining Formula E for the final season of the Gen3 era. He scored his first World Championship points with seventh place in only his second race in Mexico before leading a Formula E race for the first time at his home event in Madrid.

His biggest breakthrough came at the Monaco E-Prix. Starting from 15th on the grid, Marti charged through the field to finish third, becoming the first Spaniard to stand on a Formula E podium. He followed that up in Sanya, where another recovery drive from deep in the field earned him second place.

Marti ended his rookie season with 66 points. He will now have the opportunity to continue his development with Cupra Kiro as Formula E introduces the significantly more powerful Gen4 car.

Marti: "I feel like we're only just getting started"

"I'm very happy to continue racing for Cupra Kiro in the 2026/27 Formula E season," said Marti. Since joining the team, he says he has felt "huge support and trust" from everyone around him, with the two sides building something very positive during his rookie campaign.

Marti is particularly proud of his podium finishes, his laps in the lead and becoming the first Spanish driver to reach a Formula E podium. At the same time, his focus is already turning towards the new generation of car.

"But I also feel like we're only just getting started. Cupra Kiro has big ambitions for the future, and I'm excited to be part of that journey into Gen4."

Team Principal Russell O'Hagan also described continuing with Marti as a natural decision. According to O'Hagan, the Spaniard has impressed the team with his talent, work ethic and maturity since joining. Although Cupra Kiro initially intended to give its rookie time to develop, Marti "exceeded our expectations almost immediately".

The team regards him as one of Formula E's most promising young talents and believes he can play an important role in the championship in the years ahead.

Who will race alongside Marti? Ticktum's future remains open

With Marti confirmed, one of Cupra Kiro's two seats for Season 13 is now secured. The identity of the second Gen4 driver, however, has yet to be announced.

Dan Ticktum, who has raced for the team since making his Formula E debut, had already revealed at the season finale in London that he was also exploring opportunities outside Cupra Kiro. The Briton is understood to have since tested for Lola Yamaha and is considered a potential candidate to join the team for the Gen4 era. However, Ticktum has not completely ruled out remaining with CUPRA KIRO either.

Cupra Kiro will continue to use Porsche technology in the Gen4 era. From Season 13 onwards, however, the customer team will receive powertrains to the same technical specification as Porsche's factory teams.

The 2026/27 Formula E season will get under way in Jeddah on December 18 and 19, 2026.
