Fortescue Zero Racing has unveiled the livery of its first Formula E car for the Gen4 era. The new team has opted for a black and neon green colour scheme, featuring unusual details that reflect the company's Australian roots. While Dan Ticktum appeared on stage at the launch event, his intended team-mate Taylor Barnard was notably absent. His future remains uncertain amid an ongoing contract dispute.

Black as the base colour, combined with striking neon green accents: this is how Fortescue Zero Racing's new Gen4 car will look. The colour scheme extends across much of the bodywork and clearly distinguishes the design from that of fellow Jaguar-powered team Envision Racing, which also features green.

Mining-inspired design and hidden tribute to Williams

The most distinctive features, however, are found in the details. The bodywork features contour lines representing the site where Fortescue plans to establish its first so-called green mine in Australia's Pilbara region. The design reflects the company's ambition to operate its mining activities there without fossil fuels in the future.

The livery also features the initials of Fortescue founder Andrew Forrest and former Formula 1 team principal Frank Williams. In 2022, Fortescue acquired Williams Advanced Engineering, a technology company that originally emerged from the Williams Group.

Barnard absent from launch as future remains uncertain

One notable absence at the launch event was Taylor Barnard. The British driver, who had already been confirmed as a full-time driver for the team, did not attend the presentation and is currently no longer listed in the driver line-up on Fortescue Zero Racing's official website. Due to the ongoing contract dispute, it remains unclear whether Barnard will race for the Australian outfit next season.

Several key figures behind the new Formula E project were present instead. Alongside team principal Jim Wright and driver Dan Ticktum, former Williams Formula 1 deputy team principal Claire Williams appeared in her role as an ambassador.

Ticktum is optimistic about Formula E's 13th season and particularly praised Jaguar's support as a manufacturer: "We've had tremendous support from Jaguar, which will help us a lot, and many of the people we have on board come from the former DS Penske team. We're going to hit the ground running."

Fortescue Zero Racing will take part in the official Formula E pre-season testing in Madrid from November 16. With Jaguar as its powertrain supplier, the team has an experienced technical foundation to build on. However, who will occupy the second cockpit alongside Dan Ticktum remains uncertain.
