German Formula E driver Max Günther (Maserati) won the second free practice session in Berlin on Saturday morning. He set the fastest time shortly before the end, beating Lucas di Grassi (ABT) and compatriot Pascal Wehrlein in the Porsche. The session had to be temporarily interrupted due to an advertising hoarding on the track.

In slightly hazy conditions, the session got underway at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning. Not much worth mentioning happened in the first few minutes. Max Günther set the fastest lap, followed by Edo Mortara and Pascal Wehrlein. The German had had to abandon 1st free practice on Friday with a technical defect. Porsche subsequently worked late into the night to get Wehrlein's car back in shape for Saturday's race.

Envision replacement driver Joel Eriksson touched the wall and took a piece of the kerb with him. His team-mate and Formula E debutant Paul Aron was in a good fourth place after the first third of the half-hour session. Lucas di Grassi then set the fastest lap to date in the ABT car. He was followed in the next few minutes by Oliver Rowland, Norman Nato and Jake Dennis. There were already a few fans in the grandstands - including a Sam Bird supporter who made the McLaren driver laugh.

Advertising banner causes red flag

After 20 minutes, the practice session had to be interrupted with a red flag. Dan Ticktum had lightly touched the wall at the exit of turn 4 and pulled an advertising banner onto the track, which came to rest in the middle of the racing line. After a short break, the race continued. The session was extended accordingly.

In the final phase, many drivers once again set fast laps. Sergio Sette Camara almost crashed into the rear of Stoffel Vandoorne in turn 1. The first improvement came from local hero Günther, who took the lead. Wehrlein moved up to third place.

But nobody could match Günther's fastest lap (1:02.177 minutes). The Maserati driver therefore won the second free practice session ahead of di Grassi, Wehrlein, Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne. Qualifying on Saturday starts at 10:20 am.
