Mitch Evans also topped the third free practice session at the Formula E finale in London. The Jaguar driver set the only 1:06 lap time of the weekend so far, breaking his own track record in the process. Pascal Wehrlein in the Porsche finished second ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (Maserati). Ahead of qualifying, there are many signs of another epic duel between Evans and Wehrlein.

The final free practice session of the 2024/25 season started on time at 11am (CEST) in similar conditions to the previous day - with gentle sunshine over London. Not much worth mentioning happened in the first few minutes, apart from Stoffel Vandoorne's braking error in Turn 1. The Maserati driver also misjudged the run-off area and lightly touched the TecPro barrier with the nose of his car. Several lap times were deleted because various drivers disregarded the track limits.

Nyck de Vries showed a wild ricochet at the exit of the chicane, while Max Günther made a mistake in Attack Mode turn 16. Robin Frijns did the same a little later. The times fell below 1:09 minutes for the first time after just under a quarter of an hour, namely due to the two Mahindra drivers de Vries and Edo Mortara.

Jake Hughes, on the other hand, had not been able to take part in training until then. "During the last check before FP3 we found a problem that we are still investigating", explained the Maserati driver. Lucas di Grassi, meanwhile, drove straight ahead in turn 1 and cut through the emergency exit.

Best time duel between Evans & Wehrlein continues

Now the first lap times with attack mode appeared on the time monitor. Antonio Felix da Costa took the lead ahead of Günther and Jean-Eric Vergne. At this point, front-runner Mortara was still just under two tenths of a second off the track record (1:07.205 minutes; Mitch Evans). David Beckmann braked hard on the approach to turn 10 and needed to spin in the run-off zone.

With just over twelve minutes to go, Dan Ticktum took the lead - with the second-fastest time of the weekend so far. The curious thing about it: according to the time monitor, he had used the race mode with only 300 kW! The next best time - with 350 kW - came from Evans around seven minutes before the end. Then the track record was finally set: Pascal Wehrlein set a lap time of 1:07.045 minutes!

Ticktum was on a fast lap - this time in attack mode - when he caught up with de Vries. The Dutchman had cut the chicane and was just coming back onto the track. Ticktum greeted him with a not-so-nice hand gesture as he passed. With time running out, Evans put his foot down: with the first and only 1:06 time, he set the new track record and took the session win.

Qualifying for the Formula E season finale starts at 1:20 pm (CEST). You can follow the session in our live ticker on e-Formula.news.
