Nyck de Vries has won the third free practice session in London. He clinched the session with a time of 1:07.118 minutes. Lucas di Grassi caused a red flag after his Lola Yamaha ABT simply coasted to a halt at Turn 6. Mitch Evans spent most of the session in his garage dealing with brake problems and was unable to set a meaningful time throughout the entire session. Dan Ticktum and Sébastien Buemi rounded off the top three.
The third free practice session got underway in similar conditions to yesterday. The drivers set off again punctually at 8.30 am (local time) to prepare for race day. As usual, the initial times were quite slow at first, but were pushed down to under 1:10 minutes just a few minutes after the session began.
World Championship third-placed Evans experiences problems; di Grassi causes a disruption
Meanwhile, Evans complained about his brakes and drove back to his garage to have the problem sorted out. The New Zealander was in 19th place with a very slow lap time. After around 15 minutes, Ticktum took first place with a time of 1:08.893 minutes, ahead of Jake Dennis and Taylor Barnard.
Shortly afterwards, Lucas di Grassi caused a red flag. His Lola Yamaha ABT cut out, and he subsequently parked the car in the run-off area at Turn 6. Shortly before that, he had radioed his team, mentioning that he could smell something burning. Both Mahindra drivers were at the front, with de Vries leading ahead of Mortara. The top six were already setting times under 1:08 minutes.
After around eight minutes, the track was reopened. Once again, it was Ticktum who managed to beat de Vries’s fastest time. He was just under three-tenths of a second faster and took the lead. Wehrlein also improved his time, but couldn’t get close to Ticktum.
Shortly before the end of the session, the drivers improved their times in quick succession. De Vries went even faster and took the lead. With a time of 1:07.118 minutes, the Dutchman was fastest in the final free practice session of the season. Ticktum and Buemi rounded off the top three. Evans finished in 20th place without setting a meaningful lap time.
Next up is qualifying at 11:40 am (CEST). This can also be followed on our Formula E live ticker.
