Formula E in London: Edoardo Mortara sets the fastest time in the second free practice session

Edoardo Mortara came out on top in the second free practice session. He won the session with a time of 1:07.284 minutes. Second and third places went to the Porsche drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller. With temperatures slightly cooler than yesterday, we can expect an exciting day of racing.

The session started on time at 8.30 am local time. Nearly all 20 drivers took to the track straight away. However, the initial lap times were still a long way off yesterday’s standard. Antonio Felix da Costa took the lead with a time of 1:13.822 minutes.

After the first few, rather slow laps, improvements followed quickly. Around ten minutes after the start of the practice session, Dennis was leading the timesheets. Both Porsche drivers managed to beat the Briton’s time, however, before he was able to improve his time once more and reclaimed the lead.

Rowland in the pits

Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland had to return to the pits. He made contact with the wall during his lap. He immediately realised that something was wrong with the steering and returned to his garage for repairs.

Meanwhile, lap times continued to improve. After around 20 minutes, Mortara was leading with a time of 1:07.632 minutes, ahead of Günther and de Vries. This beat yesterday’s fastest time.

Following repairs to his Nissan, Rowland was also able to resume the session. On his fast lap, he encountered a slow-moving Müller, who blocked him. The incident was subsequently noted, and Müller received a warning.

With ten minutes remaining in the session, Mortara remained at the top of the timesheets. Dennis, who had expressed great satisfaction with his car throughout the session, was in second place, with de Vries in third.

The drivers kept improving their times, but initially no one could match Mortara’s time. A few minutes before the end, the fastest time stood at 1:07.284 minutes. Wehrlein was almost three-tenths of a second behind the Swiss driver.

Towards the end, there was a brief scare between Wehrlein and Drugovich when they made contact. Mortara’s fastest time held up right until the end, meaning he won the second free practice session. Wehrlein and Müller followed in second and third places.
