Mitch Evans took pole position on Saturday! In a close qualifying session at Formula E's London E-Prix, the Jaguar driver beat Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) in the final duel. Third place on the grid went to Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein, who will start the penultimate race of the season alongside Dan Ticktum.

Group A: Cassidy impresses in Group A

After the first half of the twelve-minute session, Taylor Barnard led ahead of his McLaren team-mate Sam Bird. However, the times were still a long way off the level of FP1, but were getting faster and faster. Shortly before the end, Nick Cassidy was in front, then the drivers got ready for the decisive tests.

But nobody could match Cassidy's time - group victory for the Jaguar driver! Max Günther, de Vries and Ticktum also made it into the Top 4, with Nico Müller narrowly missing out in fifth place. Champion Rowland finished behind him. Barnard in 7th place also proved that the Nissan drive system cannot really keep up in London, with Norman Nato, Sebastien Buemi, Sam Bird and Zane Maloney finishing even further back.

Group B: Wehrlein impressive, Maserati surprising

In Group B, six champions battled it out for a place in the duels. Mahindra driver Edo Mortara was in the lead for a long time, but was knocked off the top spot towards the end by Pascal Wehrlein. The German set a lap time of 1:08.690 minutes. The two Maserati cars of Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne also managed to improve their times, pushing Mortara back to fifth position, as New Zealander Mitch Evans also made it into the duels with a second place in his group.

Mortara was followed by Dennis and David Beckmann. They were followed by Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa, who both disappointed. Robin Frijns and Lucas di Grassi completed Group B.

Quarter finals

VF1: Nyck de Vries vs. Max Günther

Both were almost equally fast in Sector 1. However, de Vries managed to build up a small lead in the second section of the track. Sector 3 also went to the Mahindra driver, enabling him to prevail by just under two tenths of a second in the end.

VF2: Dan Ticktum vs. Nick Cassidy

In the second duel, local hero Ticktum got off to a slightly better start, but Cassidy was also fast. In the second part of the track, Ticktum was able to extend his lead by another tenth of a second. Although Cassidy caught up again in sector 3, he was ultimately 17 thousandths of a second short. Ticktum in the semi-finals!

VF3: Jake Hughes vs Mitch Evans

Evans went into the third quarter-final as the favourite – and he delivered in the first sector. Hughes continued to be unable to match the New Zealander's pace in the second part of the track. In the end, he was just under two tenths behind. A commanding performance from the reigning vice-world champion!

VF4: Stoffel Vandoorne vs Pascal Wehrlein

Now it was the turn of the reigning world champion Wehrlein, who had already flexed his muscles in the group stage. At the start of his lap, he built up a small advantage, which he was able to extend further in the second sector. Sector 3 also went to the German, who qualified for the semi-final against Evans with a 1.72-tenths lead.

Semi-final

HF1: Dan Ticktum vs. Nyck de Vries

De Vries kicked off the first semi-final with an impressive first sector, giving him a slight edge. But Ticktum fought back in the second part of the track! Things got exciting. Ticktum pushed his Kiro to the maximum in sector 3, but de Vries beat him by nine thousandths!

HF2: Mitch Evans vs. Pascal Wehrlein

The second semi-final began with two excellent first sectors. In the second sector of this duel of the giants, both were almost equally fast! However, Evans had a slight lead in both sections up to that point. So it didn't help that Wehrlein was faster in sector 3. He had to admit defeat to Evans by 34 thousandths of a second – Evans through to the final!

Final: Nyck de Vries vs. Mitch Evans

Time for the final! In Sector 1, both drivers were almost identical in speed. In Section 2, they continued to be neck and neck - once again with a slight advantage for de Vries. In Sector 3, however, Evans pulled off a magic trick and took two tenths off the Dutchman! Ultimately, he prevailed with a 1.7-tenths-of-a-second lead - pole position for Mitch Evans!

It is the eleventh pole position in Formula E for the New Zealander and the 14th for Jaguar. Also exciting: it's Jaguar's fifth pole in a row at the London E-Prix!
