Nikita Bedrin wins the afternoon session of the rookie test at the Circuito del Madrid-Jarama with a lap time of 1:29.250 minutes. Kush Maini follows in second place, 0.080 seconds behind. The "podium" is completed by the winner of the morning session, Theophile Nael, with a lap time of 1:29.481 minutes.
The afternoon session of the rookie test started at 2pm. After the 20 drivers had already gained a lot of experience and knowledge in the three-hour morning session, most of them returned to the track as soon as the green flag dropped.
The first hour was initially quiet. With the exception of Elia Weiß, all the drivers were able to set a lap time. The Porsche driver initially had to wait, presumably because his Porsche 99X Electric was more badly damaged than expected in his accident in the morning.
After several lead changes, Zak O'Sullivan finally took the lead with a time of 1:30.431 minutes. At the end of the first hour, the session was interrupted by a red flag. However, the reason for this was simply gravel on the track, which a driver had spread there after a trip into the gravel trap. Practice resumed after around ten minutes.
Nael on top after the restart
As soon as the track was reopened, Theophile Nael put down another marker. Having already set the fastest time in the morning, he set a lap time of 1:29.418 minutes in his Mahindra, over a second faster than Zak O'Sullivan in the Envision.
For about 15 minutes it remained quiet before two further improvements were made. Firstly, Kush Maini undercut his team-mate's best time, but was immediately beaten by Nikita Bedrin in the DS Penske. With a time of 1:29.250 minutes, the 20-year-old took the lead of the field after just over half of the session.
The rest of the afternoon was much calmer. Weiß was finally able to set a lap time in his Porsche, but returned to the pits immediately afterwards. After around two hours of practice, there were only three drivers left on the track.
Not much action in the final 60 minutes
In the last hour, it remained very quiet on the track, with only a few of the 20 drivers able to improve. Bedrin therefore finished the afternoon session in first place, followed by Maini and Nael. Victor Martins put his Nissan in 4th position, and the top 10 was completed by Theo Pouchaire, Freddie Slater, O'Sullivan, Callum Voisin, Abby Pulling and Joshua Dürksen.
Formula E continues after a longer break: on 2 May, the racing series will race at the former airport in Berlin-Tempelhof - the home race for e-formula.news.
