Citroen secured its first victory in Formula E in Mexico City. New Zealander Nick Cassidy won ahead of Edoardo Mortara and reigning world champion Oliver Rowland. Pole man Sebastien Buemi, on the other hand, fell a long way back after making a mistake immediately after the start and scored no points.

The drivers got their tyres up to temperature with burnouts at the start, then it was time for the 20 drivers to get going. However, the start did not go as planned for pole man Sebastien Buemi in the Envision: He braked on the first corner and had to drive into the emergency exit. As a result, he dropped back to 20th place. Taylor Barnard, who had started from second position, benefited and subsequently took the lead.

Pascal Wehrlein was the first driver to activate attack mode and he then drove to the front. This was followed by teamwork with his teammate Nico Müller. The two drivers protected each other and were able to stay at the front of the field for a long time.

de Vries caused a safety car

Towards the middle of the race, Nyck de Vries brought out a yellow flag: his car came to a halt in the run-off zone in turn 1, the Dutchman appeared to have had a technical problem. This was followed by a full-course yellow and then the deployment of the safety car to remove the car from the track.

Buemi, who had worked his way back into the top 10, pitted during the safety car period. The left rear tyre had to be changed as the tyre pressure of 1.18 bar was slightly below the required minimum pressure of 1.20 bar. The cause was presumably damage to the tyre. Buemi subsequently found himself in last place once again.

Multiple contacts in the midfield

This was followed by contact between Maximilian Günther and Antonio Felix da Costa: the Jaguar driver entered the hairpin of turn 5 with too much speed and hit the German from the side, causing the DS Penske to spin. Dan Ticktum was also affected: he was unable to continue, and Felix da Costa's race also ended as a result of the contact.

There was also slight contact between Jake Dennis and Edoardo Mortara, but both were able to continue. Dennis, however, suffered a slightly damaged front wing. Both drivers approached the home straight in second and third place, but then Oliver Rowland in the Nissan was able to fight his way onto the final podium position.

The leader at the time was Citroen driver Nick Cassidy, who came under pressure from behind from Edoardo Mortara and Oliver Rowland at the end. But Cassidy managed to finish the race as the winner. The New Zealander not only secured his first win of the season, but also the first victory for Citroen Racing in Formula E. Mortara and Rowland completed the podium ahead of Barnard, Dennis, Wehrlein, Pepe Marti, Jean-Eric Vergne, Müller and Norman Nato.

In the overall standings, Cassidy took the lead ahead of Dennis and Rowland, with Wehrlein in fourth. Citroen Racing leads the teams ahead of Andretti and Nissan. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Stellantis has taken the lead ahead of Porsche and Nissan.

The next race of the Electric World Championship will take place at the end of January in Miami in the USA. Once again, we at e-Formula.news will be reporting for you in our usual fashion.
