Mitch Evans secures Jaguar their first victory of the 12th Formula E season. The New Zealander celebrated his 15th victory in Formula E at the wet Miami International Autodrome - a new record! The two Porsche drivers Nico Müller and Pascal Wehrlein completed the podium in Florida. The strong Felipe Drugovich did not finish in the points after an accident when braking with Antonio Felix da Costa.
The race started with Porsche's Nico Müller on pole position, a historic grid position for the Swiss driver, followed by Felipe Drugovich in second place. This was also the Brazilian's best starting position in Formula E, with Antonio Felix da Costa behind him in third. 39 laps were scheduled for the race. There had been rain before the race, but it had stopped by the start of the race.
The race started behind the safety car, but even in these conditions there was the first minor incident: Sebastien Buemi spun off the track, but was able to continue. Pole-sitter Nico Müller also described a slippery race track on the radio communications to his team.
Safety car phase ends after five laps
After five laps, the safety car returned to the pits and the race got underway with a standing start.
The start went off without a hitch and Drugovich went straight into attack mode for two minutes. He took the lead shortly afterwards thanks to the extra power. Müller and de Vries followed Drugovich with the attack mode activation.
With the extra power, Müller took the lead again and de Vries also stormed forward and took to the front of the field. The Dutchman still had one minute of the extra power remaining. This was followed by several lead changes between Drugovich, Müller and de Vries. Eriksson was also in the mix at the front after his Attack Mode activation, while Pascal Wehrlein made up ground in the second Porsche and moved into the leading group.
With Attack Mode in tow, Felix da Costa took the lead after 18 laps. The Portuguese driver overtook Drugovich and Müller in the corner before the start-finish straight. The Portuguese driver received a caution for the aggressive manoeuvre.
Multiple drivers with problems
Meanwhile, Maximilian Günther appeared to have had problems. The German dropped to the back of the field and was even lapped after starting from 10th on the grid. Dan Ticktum also had to deal with problems: the Englishman had to change his wheels after 24 laps. The stop in the garage dropped him to the back of the field. He was sent back onto the track by his team, but described the situation as a "waste of time". Nissan's Norman Nato was also lapped, as was championship leader Nick Cassidy.
A crash between Felipe Drugovich and Antonio Felix da Costa followed: The Andretti driver braked and hit the rear of the Jaguar. Drugovich went straight to the garage, losing his promising position at the front of the field. He dropped back to 17th place and also received a ten-second time penalty for the accident. Felix da Costa found himself in 6th place after the contact.

Meanwhile, Mitch Evans took the lead of the field with Attack Mode.
Due to the safety car phase at the start, the race distance was extended by two laps. Things got chaotic in the final phase: Felix da Costa and Mortara touched in the battle for 5th and 6th place.
But Mitch Evans held onto his lead and won in Miami - the New Zealander's 15th victory in a Jaguar. He was joined on the podium by the two Porsche drivers Müller and Wehrlein. The top 10 was completed by Eriksson, de Vries, Mortara, Buemi, Felix da Costa, Pepe Marti and Jake Dennis.
Despite his zero points, Cassidy remained at the top of the drivers' standings, with Wehrlein taking second place ahead of Dennis, Rowland and Müller. Only seven championship points separate the top five. In the teams' standings, Porsche pulled well ahead of Citroen, with Mahindra now in third place. Porsche leads the manufacturers' standings ahead of Stellantis and Jaguar.
The next Formula E race is the double header in Jeddah, which takes place in mid-February.
