Taylor Barnard was fastest in the 2nd Formula E free practice session in Miami. Practice went off without any major incidents until Lucas di Grassi in the Lola Yamaha ABT brought out the red flag shortly before the end of the session after contact with Mitch Evans, bringing the session to a premature end.
Early on Saturday morning at 7.30 a.m. local time, the Formula E drivers continued with the second free practice session on the race track in Miami in slightly colder temperatures of 14 degrees celsius. This meant that the drivers first had to get the tyres up to temperature.
The first faster lap time came after seven minutes, when Mitch Evans was the first driver to post a lap time of under one minute. The New Zealander completed the lap around the 2.32-kilometre track in 0:57.317 minutes. The other drivers gradually followed suit, so that after ten minutes the top 15 were all under one minute. Only the two DS Penske and Cupra Kiros as well as Oliver Rowland in the Nissan were still clocking lap times of over a minute.
The reigning world champion complained about his brakes. He complained about not being able to brake and described problems with his rear axle. This was noticeable throughout the entire training session: Rowland was at the back of the field the entire time. Changes were later made to the car in the garage.
There was a minor incident between Sebastien Buemi in the Envison and Nick Cassidy in the Citroen: there was almost contact after the two drove side by side and the Citroen turned into turn 13 early, cutting Buemi off. The New Zealander received a caution for the incident.
Lap times dropped bit by bit
The lap times gradually dropped: With 15 minutes on the clock, Norman Nato in the Nissan led the field with a lap time of 0:55.679 minutes. However, the Frenchman did not quite match yesterday's best time. The best time from yesterday's 1st free practice was set by Dan Ticktum with a lap time of 0:55.503 minutes.

Pepe Marti followed suit and set a lap time of 0:55.674 minutes, before other drivers followed shortly before the end: Müller overtook Marti with a lap time of 0:55.621 minutes and then Taylor Barnard followed shortly after with a lap time of 0:55.531 minutes, moving him into the top position. This allowed the Briton to secure the top spot, as practice was ended early shortly afterwards:
A red flag followed shortly before the end. The reason: Lucas di Grassi's car came to a halt in turn 5 after contact with Mitch Evans' Jaguar. Di Grassi had taken the corner too late and both cars touched. As di Grassi's fire extinguisher had gone off, he was unable to continue.
