The second race at the 2026 Monaco E-Prix was characterised by a number of incidents and interruptions. However, reigning world champion Oliver Rowland showed patience, worked his way forwards and won his first race in the 12th Formula E season. He shared the podium with Andretti driver Felipe Drugovich and Jaguar driver Antonio Felix da Costa.
Sunday afternoon saw the second race of the weekend at the Circuit de Monaco in sunny 20-degree weather. Dan Ticktum in the Cupra Kiro had secured pole position for the second time in a row. Antonio Felix da Costa in the Jaguar and Edoardo Mortara started behind him. 28 laps were scheduled for the race, but without a pit boost charging stop this time.
The 20 drivers all got away well, but on lap 1 there was direct contact between Mortara and the Jaguar of Antonio Felix da Costa in the chicane. Mortara drove into the rear of Felix da Costa and spun the Portuguese driver, dropping him back to 16th place. Mortara, who was leading the field at the time, was handed a 10-second time penalty for the accident.
On lap 6, Norman Nato came to a halt on the approach to turn 19 and was subsequently pushed into the pit lane. He was pushed sideways into the wall by Taylor Barnard. The Briton in the DS Penske received a ten-second time penalty for this.
Meanwhile, Nico Müller in the Porsche led the field after working his way forwards with six minutes of attack mode. On lap 11, Evans passed Müller in attack mode and led the race.
Countless incidents in the midfield
There was also contact between Maximilian Günther and Sebastien Buemi. The German received a five-second time penalty for the collision. Marti and Cassidy caused a full-course yellow on lap 19. Marti had defective steering and drove straight into the crash barrier, preventing Cassidy from turning in. Cassidy had to go to his garage and dropped to the back of the field.
Oliver Rowland showed patience in the meantime and was able to work his way to the front of the field in attack mode. Mortara and Drugovich behind him had no attack mode left and were unable to catch him. For Ticktum, who had started from pole, things did not go as the Briton had hoped in this race either: he drove too fast under full-course yellow and was given a 5-second time penalty. The Brit finished the race in 14th place, outside the points.
The top 10 of the race were Rowland, Drugovich, Felix da Costa, Evans, Mortara, Dennis, Müller, Eriksson, de Vries and di Grassi. Pascal Wehrlein in the Porsche finished the race in 12th place, with Günther in the DS Penske directly behind him in 13th place.
Formula E continues in just over a month's time. The next race will take place on 20 June in Sanya.
