Antonio Felix da Costa also finished the 2nd free practice session of Formula E in Shanghai in the lead. He set a new track record of 1:08.749 minutes, leaving Taylor Barnard (McLaren) and Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) behind him. Max Günther and Jake Hughes completed the top five in an uneventful session.

The second session of the Shanghai E-Prix began on time at 8am local time (2am CEST) under overcast skies. Virtually nothing worth mentioning happened in the first ten minutes. Only Mitch Evans, who will start the race with a pitching back 80 positions (!), was once again the centre of attention because he was initially unable to leave his pit.

After a quarter of an hour, Jake Hughes set the first 1:08 laptime, already beating the track record from the previous day (1:09.280 minutes; Antonio Felix da Costa). Towards the halfway point of the session, things quietened down on the track - only a few drivers were doing their circles. One of them was Zane Maloney, who moved up to second place. However, he was not to keep this position for long, as Cassidy moved between him and Hughes shortly afterwards.

13 minutes before the end, a new best time was set, this time by Jake Dennis. Five minutes later, another Porsche driver climbed to the top: this time it was Felix da Costa. Taylor Barnard and Nyck de Vries lined up directly behind the Portuguese driver. All the drivers were still on the track when the time ran out. However, there were no more notable improvements. The second session also went to Felix da Costa and Porsche.

Qualifying for Saturday's race in Shanghai begins at 4.20am (CEST). As always, e-Formula.news offers you a live ticker.
