Andretti driver Jake Dennis won the extremely eventful Sao Paulo E-Prix. The Briton relegated reigning world champion Oliver Rowland in the Nissan and Nick Cassidy in the Citroen to the other podium places. The season opener was characterised by a number of incidents, one of which was particularly dramatic involving Pepe Marti.

The race initially seemed to start without any problems, but then one incident followed the next: It began with a slight contact between Nyck de Vries and Dan Ticktum, which also affected Edoardo Mortara's race. Ticktum dropped back to last place with a puncture.

When returning to the track, Mortara had not stopped as he was supposed to. He received a time penalty of five seconds. De Vries also lost time, as he also had to come into the pits to change tyres as a result.

Ticktum later received a drive-through penalty for a burnout in the pit lane and then another for working on the car while it was ready to drive. The race was over for the Cupra Kiro driver, who had qualified so well and started from second on the grid - he retired.

Good start for Dennis and Wehrlein

Pole man Jake Dennis got off to a good start, as did Pascal Wehrlein, who quickly found himself in the lead at the beginning of the race, despite being demoted before the race due to spinning wheels in the pit lane. Both drivers battled at the front of the field. As in last year's race, attack mode showed just how powerful it can be on the track: the drivers with attack mode overtook one car after another.

A large number of incidents

There was contact between the two Nissan drivers Nato and Rowland: the reigning world champion appears not to have seen his team-mate. The Frenchman drove into his garage with damage and ended his race.

A safety car followed after Mortara's Mahindra left the track. The reason was contact with Lucas di Grassi, who pushed Mortara into the wall in turn 4. This ended the Brazilian's own race and that of Mortara.

After the race was given the green light, Evans drove alongside Buemi into turn 10 and ended up in the wall. This was followed by a full-course yellow, which Pepe Marti obviously overlooked: Marti hit the Porsche of Nico Müller and the Jaguar of Felix da Costa from behind with a significant overrun and rolled over several times, with the car also catching fire in the area of the front axle.

Fifth place for Drugovich - for the time being

After an interruption, the cars returned to the track behind the safety car, followed by a flying start for a final lap. Dennis drove away at the front, followed by Rowland and Cassidy. A top result for the newcomer Citroen! Behind them, Wehrlein and Felipe Drugovich crossed the finish line.

A great result for Andretti newcomer Drugovich in his home race. However, the Brazilian had passed Cassidy in the full-course yellow phase and is therefore under investigation.

The next Formula E race is scheduled for 10 January in Mexico City. As usual, e-Formula.news will also be reporting from Mexico.
