Jake Hughes won the second free practice session of Formula E in Jakarta. The Maserati driver prevailed over Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) and Taylor Barnard (McLaren) in a wet but nevertheless uneventful session. Nick Cassidy suffered a "strange" suspension damage.
After rainfall during the night, the second free practice session began with a wet track. However, there was no new rain, so the track was already drying out again. The first few minutes were characterised by sliding cars and a fastest lap by Pascal Wehrlein. The wild drifts continued. The lap times slowly got faster. In addition to Wehrlein, Taylor Barnard, Dan Ticktum, Jake Dennis and Oliver Rowland were always at the front in the first ten minutes.

Then the two Mahindra drivers made their presence felt: Edo Mortara took second place and Nyck de Vries fourth. Stoffel Vandoorne moved in between them, while Wehrlein continued to lead. A dry racing line gradually formed. Nevertheless, Max Günther's best time from the first free practice session was still nine seconds faster. The second Maserati driver, Jake Hughes, also moved into the top four.
Suspension damage for Cassidy too
Nick Cassidy had to come into the pits with a broken right front suspension - without any visible damage. "That is really strange," said Jaguar team boss James Barclay on the radio, referring to the very similar problem on Robin Frijns' customer Jaguar from Envision the day before. "This is actually a common part. We need to look at that." Another observation with all the drivers coming back to the pits: The cars were very dirty due to the once extremely dusty and now muddy track.

Just under a quarter of an hour before the end, a new best time was finally set: Hughes switched to attack mode and took the lead with a 1.4-second advantage over second place. Jaguar had repaired Cassidy's suspension in the meantime and sent the "Kiwi" back out onto the track a good eight minutes before the end. Meanwhile, Günther's car was critically examined by the FIA to see whether he had complied with the prescribed tyre pressures.
In the last two minutes, all the drivers took to the track again, many of them trying out attack mode with four-wheel drive. However, there were no more significant shifts - partly because there was now a lot of traffic on the racing line. Hughes won an uneventful session ahead of Wehrlein and Barnard. Qualifying in Jakarta begins at 5.20am (CEST). As always, e-Formula.news offers you a live ticker for the session. The race starts at 10 a.m. (CEST).
