For the tenth year in a row, Formula E attracted numerous fans to Berlin. According to the organisers, a total of 25,000 people watched the electric series at Tempelhof Airport last weekend - spread over two days. Unfortunately, e-Formula.news was unable to obtain more precise figures. On German free-to-air TV, the Berlin E-Prix achieved mediocre ratings on Saturday - for DF1 - but the second-best result after the season opener in Mexico on Sunday.

The first Berlin race was similar to the Monaco E-Prix two weeks earlier for the new television channel DF1: mediocre to disappointing. On average, 14,000 people watched the Formula E race. At peak times, there were 35,000 fans at the same time. The so-called net reach was 155,000 contacts. Market shares were also very modest on Saturday: 0.2 per cent of TV viewers tuned in across the entire TV market. In the advertising-relevant target group (all people aged between 14 and 49), this figure was even less than 1 per cent.

Sunday was set to be much better. On average, 40,000 people watched the second Tempelhof race, and 73,000 at peak times. In total, 285,000 people came into contact with the DF1 broadcast. In terms of market share, Formula E even achieved a season best: 0.5 per cent. This had previously stood at 0.2 per cent. In the advertising-relevant target group, 0.7 per cent of all TV viewers tuned in - also an above-average figure.

Formula E ratings & market shares on Sat.1, ProSieben & DF1

Ahead of the final third of the season - six of 16 races are still to come - the interim results are still poor. The viewer average for the entire season is currently 23,000, with an average market share of 0.2 per cent. In the previous year, on free TV station ProSieben, which has a significantly higher reach, these figures were 249,000 and 2.2 per cent respectively at the end of the season. The most obvious reason: DF1 was only launched on 1 January 2024 and is far from being able to keep up with the big channels such as ProSieben in terms of popularity.

Berlin Sunday offers a little hope. In addition, Formula E's entertaining Tempelhof races this year are likely to have won over some new fans who may switch on the TV in future. It remains to be seen how the figures for the remaining six races will develop. The upcoming "double header" in Shanghai will take place during the European night and in the morning, while the subsequent Portland E-Prix will be held in the European evening. The season finale in London in mid-July, on the other hand, will again be held at similar times to Berlin.
