Moderate start to the 2024/25 Formula E season on German television: 25,000 TV viewers watched the Sao Paulo E-Prix live on DF1 on 7 December. This was slightly below the average figure for season 10 (26,125), but clearly below the outstanding channel premiere just under a year ago: DF1 reached 59,000 fans on 13 January this year with the start of the 2024 season in Mexico. The market share back then was 0.2 per cent, this time it was 0.1.

A total of 206,000 people in Germany came into contact with the live broadcast of the Sao Paulo E-Prix on DF1 (net reach). Compared to the start of the 2024 season, there was also a clear deficit in this category (694,000). However, if you compare the race with the penultimate Sao Paulo E-Prix last March, the difference is not quite as great: 335,000 viewers tuned in to Formula E back then.

At peak times - surprisingly not at the start of the race, but at 18:33 (CET) - a total of 70,000 viewers were following the race at the same time. This figure is well above the season average for 2024 (50,188) - the most positive news from the broadcast.

Market shares below the pre-season average

As usual, DF1 had a hard time competing with the programmes of the major German broadcasters in terms of market share. For example, the Sportschau programme aired on the ARD channel early on Saturday evening alongside the Formula E race. As a result, the Munich-based private broadcaster achieved a share of only 0.1 per cent in the overall TV market.

In the advertising-relevant target group (all people aged between 14 and 49), the figure was 0.2 per cent. The market shares were therefore below the average figures for season 10, which were 0.1 and 0.2 per cent respectively in the previous season.

The entertaining start to the new Formula E season could, however, ensure that more viewers tune in to the next race. The Mexico City E-Prix will take place in the new year on 11 January 2025. As usual, DF1 will broadcast Formula E live on television and livestream in Germany.
