Formula E wants to avoid long breaks between races, such as the one currently taking place, for the coming seasons. The is already therefore looking for suitable locations. According to information from The Race, a location that already hosted Formula 1 races from 1989 to 1991 is increasingly coming into play: Phoenix in the US state of Arizona.

Formula E has been in talks with the city since 2023, when a delegation of interested parties visited the Portland E-Prix. In October of the same year, the city council approved a study on whether the event was worthwhile for the fifth-largest city in the USA. At the beginning of March 2025, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds met with the interested parties again to intensify talks about a race for 2026.

Dodds: "Sporting & economically very vibrant city"

"Phoenix is one of the cities we have been talking to for some time. It's a very interesting city because it's not only a real sports city, but it's also very vibrant economically," says Dodds. He is not yet willing/able to go into detail about a location in the city where the race could be held, but assures that the race will take place on a proper street circuit. "As with everything, the hard work is only really starting now. There is a mutual interest in organising the event. We now have to crunch all the numbers, find suitable locations and look at the whole calendar."

For the 2025/26 season, Formula E definitely wants to avoid the kind of long break that was seen in the last two race calendars. The plan is also not to have any TBA dates in the calendar. The new calendar is to be presented in May. Formula E is planning 18 races at twelve locations: "That is absolutely our intention. By May we should definitely have the time to be able to offer a calendar." When asked whether a second race in the USA is likely for season 12, Dodds said: "We will have to see how the debut of Miami goes, but that is definitely an option."

Furthermore, Formula E is likely to continue planning for next season with a race in Chang Mai (Thailand), which was already under discussion for season 11. A return to familiar locations such as Cape Town or Santiago is also possibble.
