Formula E plans to expand its calendar to 22 races in 16 cities per season by 2030

Despite a planned expansion, the Formula E race calendar will consist of 16 races in the 2024/25 season for the fourth time in a row. However, this number is set to change significantly by 2030, the end of the Gen4 era: The racing series is planning to expand to up to 22 rounds per season. These are to take place in 16 different cities around the globe.
Formula E owner Liberty Global has set this goal for the next six years, report our colleagues at Il Messaggero. The return of Italy is also high on the agenda and could become a reality in the 2025/26 season. However, a return to Misano Adriatico, where a "double-header" took place in April 2024, has been ruled out.
"Italy is an important country for us," confirmed Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, to Il Messaggero. "I think we will return there in season 12 (2025/26) or season 13 (2026/27)."
Although a return to the Italian capital, where the series raced from 2018 to 2023, would be an obvious choice, Rome is not Dodds' main destination when he thinks about racing in Italy. "I'd like to race in Turin," he says, bringing up the city in north-west Italy instead.
However, the planned expansion to 16 cities does not necessarily mean that Formula E will race in significantly more countries. Teams, manufacturers and sponsors of the racing series are very interested in organising two events in the USA or China.
"I think we all really want a second US race," Andretti Team Principal Griffiths told FE Notebook. "Ideally, we would have one on the West Coast and one on the East Coast. I think that's something we really need to work towards. There's still room in the calendar for one or two more events."
Adding a race in Oceania, on the other hand, would be difficult: a trip to Australia or New Zealand would involve high costs and complex logistics. It is considered unlikely that Formula E will be able to achieve this with the goals it has set itself of reducing its carbon footprint by 45 per cent by 2030 compared to Season 5.
