The race calendar for the twelfth Formula E season continues to take shape. After an expansion to 17 races failed in previous years due to the cancellation of one race each time, Formula E is now planning 18 races for the coming season. Il Messaggero reports on some interesting changes.
For the second time in its history, Formula E is to hold an E-Prix in Spain in 2026. The venue has not yet been finalised, but Madrid has a good chance of being chosen. The pre-season tests were held in the capital last November after the racing series had to postpone the tests at short notice due to a storm disaster in the Valencia region. However, a second Valencia E-Prix would also be conceivable.
The three double-headers that are being organised in Europe this season will also take place next season. Monaco, the ExCeL exhibition centre in London and the airport circuit in Berlin-Tempelhof will also be fixed points on the racing calendar in the year 2026.
The venue in the USA will also be new: The return of the Miami E-Prix to the racing calendar at Homestead-Miami Speedway has not convinced the organisers to hold a second event at the circuit. It is not yet known whether Formula E will move to downtown Miami, where it hosted the Evo sessions in March, or possibly race in Phoenix.
What is known, however, is that Sanya is set to return to the racing calendar after 2019. In addition to the Shanghai E-Prix, the racing series would then have two events in the important Chinese market. Jakarta, Mexico City and Sao Paulo are also set to take place again, as are the double-headers in Jeddah and Tokyo.
No return to Italy, Cape Town or the first Formula E race in Thailand - at least not in the final Gen3 season. The official announcement of the race calendar is expected in June.
