Formula E: Robin Frijns wins 3rd free practice in Misano
Tobias Wirtz
In the only free practice session on Sunday, Robin Frijns secured the best time in the Envision. With a lap time of 1:16.959 minutes, he beat the track record from Saturday by a few thousandths of a second.
All drivers took to the track when the green lights came on. Sebastien Buemi set the first fast lap, but with a time of 1:21.371 minutes he was still more than four seconds off the previous day's best time.
In the minutes that followed, the lap times got faster and faster, with Jake Hughes and Robin Frijns taking the lead. Nyck de Vries rolled out on the track, but was able to continue shortly afterwards.
After ten minutes, Buemi led the classification, followed by Frijns, Jean-Eric Vergne and Lucas di Grassi. Only Sergio Sette Camara had not yet set a meaningful lap time at this point.
This changed shortly afterwards: Sette Camara set the fastest time in all three sectors and was the first driver to stay under the 1:18 barrier. Pascal Wehrlein was second, but the Porsche driver was already seven tenths of a second behind, with Sacha Fenestraz third.
The lap times continued to tumble: Nico Müller moved into first place, but was ousted shortly afterwards by Norman Nato. Ten minutes before the end, Nato led ahead of Dennis, Müller, Fenestraz and di Grassi.
Qualifying simulations at the end, Bird and Felix da Costa in the gravel
In the final minutes, many drivers changed tyres again and carried out qualifying simulations. Sam Bird hit the brakes before the chicane and had to swerve through the gravel. The same thing happened to Antonio Felix da Costa.
Robin Frijns set the fastest time in the final seconds of the session, the only driver to stay under 1:17 minutes. Wehrlein was second ahead of Hughes and the two works Jaguars of Cassidy and Evans.
Qualifying in Misano starts at 10:20 am (CEST).
