Mahindra driver Edoardo Mortara won the fourth test session of the pre-season tests in Valencia. The day started in damp conditions, as it had rained in Valencia during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. At the beginning, the times were more than 15 seconds slower than the days before due to the conditions. This changed noticeably throughout the session, however, and by the end they were back to 1:21s. Behind Mortara were Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Pascal Wehrlein and Porsche newcomer Nico Müller.
The only session on Wednesday got off to a leisurely start. Rain fell during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. As a result, the drivers had to get used to damp conditions on the track. During the first ten minutes, the two Mahindra drivers led the field. Mortara led the field with a time of 1:37.662 minutes.
Times continued to get noticeably faster
A few minutes later, the pair picked up the pace and were already five seconds faster. At this point, there was a two-second gap between them and the other drivers. Formula E rookie Felipe Dragovich was the next driver to set a new best time of 1:30.619 minutes. This remained in place for a good ten minutes before Porsche driver Wehrlein set the new fastest time of 1:29.467 minutes. He was the first driver to set a time under 1:30 minutes.</p
The track became drier and drier and the increasing grip made it faster and faster, which was also reflected in the times. At the end of the first hour, Mortara led with a strong time of 1:25.504 minutes. Behind him were Drugovich, Taylor Barnard, de Vries and Maximilian Günther.
The times continued to improve in the second hour. Once again, both Mahindras in particular shone, with times of around 1:23 minutes. At around 10:30 CET, new clouds rolled in after a brief spell of sunshine in Valencia, but this did not stop the riders from setting ever faster times on the tarmac: Improvements were made by the minute. Towards the end of the second hour, the times on the now completely dry track were already on a par with the previous day. Nico Müller took first place with a time of 1:21.921 minutes. The top five were completed by Nick Cassidy, Mortara, Wehrlein and Dennis.
No major incidents
The track limits are also an issue in Valencia. Times were repeatedly cancelled during the session, mainly due to infringements in turn 1. Mortara was able to beat Müller's time once again and led the field at the start of hour three. He was two and a half tenths of a second faster than Müller. The time chase calmed down a little 30 minutes before the end of the session.
There were no major incidents during the entire session. There were only a few yellow flags as several drivers came to a brief halt. However, as the drivers quickly got back on track each time, these were cancelled after a short time. There were no major improvements at the end of the session either. At the end of the day, Mortara led with a time of 1:21.680 minutes ahead of Dennis, de Vries, Wehrlein and Müller.
This Wednesday's morning session was the only one of the day. On Thursday, the drivers will again have two sessions to continue testing. This will also be the last day of testing for the regular drivers. Friday is completely reserved for the women. Of course, you can also follow the remaining sessions this week in the e-Formula.news live ticker.
