Gen4 calendar takes shape: Formula E is planning these races for the 2026/27 season

FIA Formula E
While Formula E unveiled the car for the coming season at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet a few days ago, it is not yet officially clear which circuits the new Gen4 cars will be racing on in their debut season. However, we were already able to capture some trends and rumours in the south of France: The racing calendar is once again becoming more extensive. There are also a few surprises.
The first surprise comes right at the start of the season: Unlike in season 12, Formula E wants to avoid an overlap with the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi, which will be held from 4 to 6 December 2026, for the first Gen4 race. There is probably too much fear that the motorsport world will once again focus on a thrilling title fight at the last race, when the new cars in the electric racing series will compete for world championship points for the first time.</p
Since the big FIA gala will presumably take place a week later, which also makes an overlap with an E-Prix impossible, the season 13 opener is to be held on the following weekend. However, as Carnival takes place relatively early in 2027, at the beginning of February, a race in Sao Paulo would get in the way of the construction work. This is another reason why the first Gen4 race is to be held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
2 USA races in Miami and Austin?
The season will then continue in the new year with the Mexico City E-Prix, before two race weekends are planned in the United States. In addition to Miami, where the track configuration could presumably be longer than in 2026, Austin is the favourite for a race in the USA. The electric series is set to start here on the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) circuit. The Sao Paulo E-Prix will then follow in March, after the carnival infrastructure in the Brazilian city's Sambadrome has been dismantled.
The Asian section of the racing calendar will follow with two races in China - in addition to Shanghai, which is considered a fixture, Sanya could also remain on the calendar in 2027; this will probably also depend on how the 2026 return goes. After that, it will move on to Japan, although it is unclear whether Formula E will continue to race in Tokyo. The race in the capital is associated with high costs for the racing series. The permanent race track in Fuji is mentioned as a possible alternative.
A return to Jakarta also seems possible, as does a race in another Asian country. Formula E had already planned a race in Chiang Mai (Thailand) in 2025, but this could not be realised. However, a return of India to the calendar, where the racing series raced in Hyderabad in 2023, seems to be ruled out at the moment.
Berlin & Madrid set, London questionable: season ends in Europe
Following this, Formula E will head to Europe: the Monaco E-Prix on 15 and 16 May will kick off the season before heading to Berlin and Madrid. The large crowds in Jarama in particular have left a lasting impression on the organisers of the electric racing series: Rumour has it that the circuit north of Madrid has been given a six-year contract and will therefore be part of the racing calendar throughout the Gen4 era. Berlin is set, but a race at the Norisring in Nuremberg seems to be off the table.
France and Italy, on the other hand, have no hope of a race: instead, Formula E will return to the UK. Instead of the ExCeL exhibition centre in London, the racing series currently favours the Brands Hatch circuit - partly because it is close to the capital. Silverstone has been rumoured as another alternative for some time, but this is likely to be more of a stopgap solution given the location.
However, unlike the London E-Prix in previous years, the race will not be the season finale: This could be held in Zandvoort instead. The circuit, located 30 kilometres west of Amsterdam directly on the North Sea, will still host a Formula 1 race in 2026, after which the current contract expires.
Fans will have to wait a little longer for the official race calendar: This is expected to be announced after the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in June.
