The next Jaguar one-two victory! The e-Formula.news driver rating for the 2026 Madrid E-Prix
Tim Neuhaus
Formula E made its racing debut in Madrid last weekend. The first E-Prix in the Spanish capital was held on the permanent Circuito del Jarama racetrack. Jaguar TCS Racing created a sensation and clinched a one-two victory with its drivers. Pascal Wehrlein joined Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa on the podium. Things did not go well at all for youngster Taylor Barnard. The Briton, who surprised everyone last year, had a disastrous race.
After each round of Formula E Season 12, our editors award points on a scale of 1 to 10 for all drivers. They are then sorted according to their average "rating score". The rating is based exclusively on driving performance, not the potential of the car or external circumstances.
Antonio Felix da Costa | Jaguar TCS Racing | 9.5
At the latest since the Jeddah E-Prix, Antonio Felix da Costa has fully arrived at Jaguar. Apparently, winning the second race in Saudi Arabia has given him a taste for more! In Madrid, the Portuguese driver had another well-rounded weekend. Things went very well in qualifying with third place, and in the race he crossed the finish line in first place with a perfect strategy. Felix da Costa didn't allow himself any mistakes and defended against his team-mate in the final metres - a great performance!
Mitch Evans | Jaguar TCS Racing | 9.2
Unlike for his team-mate, qualifying was a debacle for Mitch Evans. He started the Madrid E-Prix from just 16th place. But we know that the New Zealander knows how to catch up like no other. Many overtaking manoeuvres and an ideal strategy even brought Evans within reach of victory. However, Felix da Costa was less co-operative than Evans had hoped. In the end, it was a sensational drive to an important one-two victory for Jaguar!
Pascal Wehrlein | Porsche | 8.7
In season 12, Pascal Wehrlein has been a master of consistency so far! In the first six races, he was part of three podium ceremonies and also scored points in the other races. However, the podium in Madrid was more than a close call, but the German proved in world championship style that he still has the nerve to overtake for third place even in the final metres - and that with a damaged car! It wasn't the easiest weekend for Porsche, but Wehrlein maximised the result.
Flop of the E-Prix: Taylor Barnard | DS Penske | 1.8
Things did not go well at all for young Briton Taylor Barnard. He was only 15th in qualifying with his DS Penske and then dropped even further back to 19th in the race. There was not much to be seen in Madrid of the hard-nosed driving style with which he achieved sensational successes last year. Instead, it was more as if he wanted to be a rookie again. With two cocky manoeuvres, a collision and a push-off against Vergne and Müller, Barnard collected two time penalties. Instead of points for the world championship, there were only penalty points for his racing licence.
